Knicks vs Nets: the rivalry, circa 1993

Post#1 » by DavoBirmingham » Thu Aug 22, 2013 4:28 pm

A look back at an obscure but eventful moment in the history of the Knicks/Nets rivalry:

Long-time Nets fans will remember (and rue) the Starks flagrant on Kenny Anderson.

Nobody even remembers that game. I wish YES and MSG actually aired more of those classic vintage games. The Nets were truly struck with a series of unfortunate demoralizing events but what stands out most was fans never once used it as an excuse like the current generation of particular fans.

Speaking of Knick/Nets. MSG + just aired the full Knicks/Nets game with Kidd hitting the game winner. That game pretty much truly showed how terrible Avery Johnson was. We still had a timeout after Kidd hit the three and missed a free throw. So, imagine what a timeout with 20 seconds left could have done and only down by three.

i think the fact that the yes network doesnt show any old time nets games nets fans cant be happy about that. if u never knew any better u wouldnt know nets game are broadcast on yes.

if any longtime nets remember when the nets were broadcast on sportsnet or sportschannel? they showed repeats and old time nets games all the time.

im not a nets fan but i think one of the problems is nets get a lack of exposure on netwrk or on the radio

I remember when the Nets were on channel 1 and then 99, respectively.

Aah, the days of the grey Sigma boxes.

The only thing the Yes network doesn't do for the Nets is show classic games which I wish they did but i'll deal with it. They have Nets magazine just like Yankee magazine and they also show encore games now which at first they didn't(encore games started a year or two ago) When the Yankees season arrives Nets games sometimes get switched to UPN 9 same with Yankees. Press conferences are also shown on YES so really the only negative is no classic games =( but the great commentators Nets have had since they joined the YES network makes up for it

Plastic wood panel with the 3 position switch to get the high channels. It was the size of an Atari!

I'd like to see some classic Nets games for sure. Stuff from the Kidd era too.

I'd really love to see some of the Net games from the end of the '96-'97 season, after they traded Shawn Bradley.

I really liked that team, and was sorry that it was immediately broken up by the Keith Van Horn trade.

I'm speaking of the team after the Bradley trade and before the KVH trade. Only together for 31 games.

Nets-Knick Rivalry began the day that Julius was sold to Sixers so that Roy Boe could afford to pay territorial fees to the Knicks

Bee Eye N Gee Oh.

That was pretty much the day that I stopped rooting for both teams.

Would be fantastic...classic Nets games, give me 91-92 or even 96-97 and then follow it up w/ the 97-98...there is a strange request in there...
