Brooklyn Nets at #1
PG - Deron Williams, Shaun Livingston
SG - Joe Johnson, Jason Terry
SF - Paul Pierce, Andrei Kirilenko
PF - Kevin Garnett, Reggie Evans
C - Brook Lopez, Andre Blatche
D - Tyshawn Taylor, Alan Anderson, Mirza Teletovic, Mason Plumblee
I think a lot of folks are sleeping on the Nets this year. It's understandable. I remember when the Knicks used to try and buy a title and how poorly that went. Then Dallas tried to spend their way to a title; the eventually did win a title but not until they adopted a more conservative philosophy. Then just last year you had the Lakers try much the same thing adding Nash and Dwight Howard only to barely get swept in the first round of the playoffs. So I understand the hesitation for people to fall for this strategy being successful now. But, I think this BK team has a couple things going for it that the Lakers didn't last season.
The first thing they have going for them is the just added an infusion of heart. I never was much afraid of the Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, and Brook Lopez core. Those guys never seemed like assassins. Never seemed like they had the toughness to do whatever it takes to bleed out a victory. Pierce and KG are those guys. They'll bring the toughness that BK sorely lacked. And with any luck that attitude will spread to other members of the squad.
The second thing they have going for them is depth. Livingston, Terry, Kirilenko, Evans, and Blatche is a very nice bench. More than capable of stepping in to build on a lead or give a guy a night off. Even their deep bench is promising with Tyshawn Taylor, Alan Anderson, Mirza Teletovic, and Mason Plumblee. No this isn't the Lakers of last year. The Lakers had no bench. This team doesn't have that problem.
Oh, and then there is an all-star studded starting lineup.
No, the naysayers have it wrong this year IMHO. The poor little rich Russian is going to buy a title. A regular season one anyway.

I agree this team has a shot at Top 3 spots.
I think they get the #1 spot if MIA start off slow after the 2nd Championship High. They have no reason to push for the Tops spot because they can clearly beat any team in the EC regardless of seeding.
People are high on CHI because what happened two years ago with a healthy Rose. He may be healthy this upcoming season but that doesnt mean he will be the same Rose off the bat.
Then there is IND. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah they gave MIA a hard time in the ECF. Took them to 7 games. Yada Yada Yada. IND matched up well against NYK and MIA. This year they should continue to have that success against those teams, but we clearly match up better against IND last year. We should be able to smack IND around this year.
I wont even put NYK in this discussion. They were and are not as good as NYK and their fans think they are.

yea, this is what every net fan has basically been saying. the laker comparisons are obviously enormously flawed. the team needs were filled, our depth is great, we added much needed heart etc.
i guess its nice an outside fan recognizes this, but to anyone who knows a shred about this team this things are very clear

55 wins tops rest is more important but it also depends on how the seeding is down the stretch

were good enough to win 60 even with rest. this team is loaded. we could win 55 if KG didnt play a single game imo.

Pretty much agree. The Laker comparison is terribly flawed and off base. It would literally take ALOT to happen for the Nets to develop the chemistry issues and the off camera problems the Lakers had which were the major reason for their struggles along with freak injuries.
I was going to say 65 wins is too high but I think Anderson, Shengelia and Plumlee will get some playing time eventually and surprise. So, I pretty much agree as long as everyone stays relatively healthy and gel off the bat.
The Nets could have been a 54 win team based off the few games they lost by blowing large leads against Minnesota, Utah, Chicago x2, NY. I highly doubt Pierce, Terry, KG will let them play on auto pilot against teams in 2nd halfs. Vocal leadership will never show up on the stat sheet but it's going to be a huge piece that was missing last year.

We won't end up with the best record in the league. Maybe... MAYBE top 5.

65 wins is way too high for this team.
Were not going to dominate the regular season.
I say 52-56 wins.

I think we have a better chance at winning a title than having the best regular season record.
This is due to gelling/rest for old guys/injuries. Come playoff time we should be the #2 team but I won't be surprised to see 3 or even 4 in the standings.

I did scale the prediction back to 61 wins. Still #1 in the league, but, not quite as high now.

Re: Please critique my commentary
i dont get these insanely low regular season predictions... especially with the reason being "were gonna rest people"
yea kg will play 60 games at 25 mpg. but outside of that, i dont see who is resting much. Dwill/PP/JJ/ are all playing 30+ mpg. Lopez should again see 28-30 mpg. kirilenko, blatche, and terry will see big minutes. and hell, even without garnett at all that lineup could see 55-60 wins.
people are seriously underestimating this team and its insane depth. barring major injuries to dwill AND lopez, 55 wins should be the absolute floor for this team. and thats WITH resting veteran guys. i expect 60 or better and would be severly let down otherwise

Deron/Livingston/Taylor
Johnson/Terry/
Kirilenko/Anderson/Toko
Blatche/Evans/Teletovic
Lopez/Plumlee
We're still in position to win games even without KG/PP. 60 wins or a little over isn't too crazy.
