Caron Butler traded to Bucks for Ish Smith and Kratsov

Post#1 » by EastSideBucksFan » Thu Aug 29, 2013 3:21 am

Woelfel says "we're in serious talks for Caron Butler"......doesn't mention names but Brewhoop suggests it will be a combination of Udoh, Slava Kratsov & 2nd round pick

According to multiple sources, the Bucks and Phoenix Suns are seriously engaged in trade negotiations that would bring Butler to the Bucks.

Although exact details of the potential trade aren’t known, Butler, the former Park High School standout, would be the central figure in the deal that could be culminated as soon as today.

Stuff like this is why most posters say "I'll believe it when I see it" . Trading for a vet that will take away time from young guys to fight for the 8th seed does not aid the goal of winning a championship.

Butler will be paid nearly $8 million next season, so the Bucks would likely have to give the Suns some sort of combination involving players and draft picks. It is believed the Bucks wouldn’t surrender any of their frontline players.

Woelfel's report pretty much went viral on twitter and now everybody has been picking it up.

If Wojo or Marc Stein chime it, it's happening.

But this is picking up steam quick.

Caron just tweeted that out a minute ago.

Caron Butler was always destined to be a Buck....only once he was past his prime though.

Woelfel says no "frontline" players but implies that picks will be included.

We have money under the cap to absorb salary as well.

This could get ugly real fast.

 LOLZ. Classic Bucks move. Especially funny, because of all the rumors that they could've had Butler and Bledsoe. And even if Bledsoe wasn't a possibility, you gotta think they could've just gotten Butler in that deal anyway.

Except getting meaningful minutes over our two young guys.

I liked the idea of Butler back when the Redick deal was going down and I am still ok with him on two conditions, one that we give up next to nothing to get him as in give them Ish Smith and save Udoh for another possible deal, and two he has to be ok with the fact that he is here to mentor Giannis and Middleton and if they show that they are ready Caron becomes a benchwarmer and not a guy in the last year of his contract trying to get minutes to earn his next one. I think that is possible since in this article he says he is willing to mentor Beasley.
http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2013/08/2 ... e-to-suns/
“I would stay in his ear, I would definitely stay in his ear,” Butler said. “I would continue to motivate him and I would challenge him night-in and night-out, in practice, just whatever I can do to make him better I would do as a human being, and obviously as a basketball player because I think he has tremendous upside still.

He could also be a valuable piece in the Bucks front office or coaching staff in the future.
In July, he spent a week in Las Vegas during the NBA’s Summer League with a handful of veterans, including Andre Iguodala, participating an NBA Players Association leadership program. The intensive course ran eight hours a day and provided players who might have front-office aspirations with a comprehensive look inside the business, from the fine print of the collective bargaining agreement to formulating scouting reports on teams and players.

Also another tidbit from brewhoop that is interesting.
Delfino is still rehabbing from surgery he had a for a broken bone in his right foot that may require him to miss all of the preseason and possibly a bit of the regular season.
