We are dead in the water, until we break free of these sanctions.

Just a random tangent, but here goes:

There's some decent uniform changes across the nation for this season. One of my favorite new trends is that more teams are moving to matte finish helmets. It looks better on TV.

The chrome fad, on the other hand, needs to go away. They're absolutely horrid no matter who wears them.

Bridgewater is a beast, Heisman is going to be his to lose. There schedule is just way too cake.

Not so fast (/Lee Corso voice), I think he'll cool off even though his conference schedule is pretty weak. Gimme DeAnthony Thomas or Braxton Miller.

And probably Lane Kiffin.

He'll start out as the front runner no doubt. But the season is way too long to say it's his to lose.

One factor to consider is that the new American Conference is going to get hammered all season for how weak it is.

And it is as weak as advertised....and after this past weekend, maybe worse.

Bridgewater will pile up the stats in the AAC, but those stats won't have complete credibility should other candidates step up.

AP Top 25

RK TEAM RECORD PTS
1 Alabama (58) 1-0 1497
2 Oregon 1-0 1355
3 Ohio State (1) 1-0 1330
4 Clemson (1) 1-0 1304
5 Stanford 0-0 1277
6 South Carolina 1-0 1181
7 Texas A&M 1-0 1085
8 Louisville 1-0 1073
9 LSU 1-0 971
10 Florida State 1-0 953
11 Georgia 0-1 894
12 Florida 1-0 875
13 Oklahoma State 1-0 780
14 Notre Dame 1-0 707
15 Texas 1-0 674
16 Oklahoma 1-0 612
17 Michigan 1-0 583
18 UCLA 1-0 387
19 Northwestern 1-0 320
20 Washington 1-0 315
21 Wisconsin 1-0 287
22 Nebraska 1-0 219
23 Baylor 1-0 150
24 TCU 0-1 148
25 USC 1-0 135

Dropped from rankings: Boise State 19, Oregon State 25

Others receiving votes: Miami (FL) 127, Ole Miss 50, Arizona State 48, Michigan State 42, Northern Illinois 27, Cincinnati 27, Fresno State 22, Virginia Tech 12, Bowling Green 9, Georgia Tech 8, Arizona 6, Penn State 4, Boise State 3, Virginia 2, Arkansas 1

No real surprises here. Clemson jumps into the top five after handling Georgia (who falls out of the top 10), they also get a first place vote. LSU and FSU both jump into the top 10. Washington and Baylor both jump into the top 25, not sure why Baylor did since they predictably destroyed Wofford.

Big games next week:

#12 Florida @ Miami
#2 Oregon @ Virginia
#6 South Carolina @ #11 Georgia
#15 Texas @ BYU
Wazzu @ #25 USC

And, game of the week: #14 Notre Dame @ #17 Michigan. I'm calling this the game of the week because it's the last installment of the rivalry, and there's been some trash talk between the coaches. Hopefully it'll translate onto the field and make it a good one.

He played very well.

No doubt he will take some lumps throughout the year, but he looks to be the whole package.

Mark Richt will be on the hot seat once again if UGA falls to 0-2.

iowa is running the ball fine, and i like rudocks running ability but they are becoming very check-downish which is leading to a stagnant offense

stopping the run really well but still some concerns with the secondary, they haven't hit anything big but people have been open

Canes back on the map. Really impressed by the way their defense has performed through the first two games.

The looks on the faces of Virginia fans after Mariota's long TD run were priceless.
