Re: 2013 Around The League Thread
So, scanning the final cut lists, I see that the Seahawks cut Chris Harper (4th round WR), the Giants cut Marvin Austin (2011 2nd rounder), the Colts cut former Packers 7th rounder Lawrence Guy and Drake Nevis (the Colts also cut their 2011 2nd rounder, Ben Ijalana, which means they only have Costanzo left from the 2011 draft), and the Ravens DID cut Bobby Rainey after all.

Steelers also cut Dwyer.

Jags claim 7 on waivers. That's gotta be some kind of record for a nonexpansion team.

Tyler Wilson cut. Raiders really can't afford misses like this with how short on picks they have been. Prob means no shot at Flynn coming back to gb this yr.

I agree with the main premise but think he goes way too far. He's speaking out of both sides of his mouth, calling him both a good kid and a guy who's looking to take people's money for nothing. Nobody should have anything bad to say about Tim Tebow as a person, I would encourage everyone to speak bad about Skip Bayless.

Re: 2013 Around The League Thread
I read the article. Tebow wasn't elevated by Bayless (although I agree Bayless should be strapped to a rocket and fired into the center of the sun). Tebow was the most popular athlete because he tapped into a zealous, fairly small but fairly monolithic demo that doesn't prioritize football. These people had their minds made up long before Bayless opened his mouth. Bayless is just a troll, nobody should credit him for anything. And for the love of God, he should not be the centerpiece of any articles -- that's rule #1. Right before not feeding him after midnight. He'll multiply like the **** Gremlins.

I took it as the guy is intentionally going way over the top to give the tebow folks a nice little taste of their own medicine, needless to say I thought it was pitch perfect and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it...

*Plus I actually do strongly personally dislike tebow as well, but that's just me. Self righteous religious people are hard enough for me not to dislike, let alone politically motivated self righteous religious people who have the equivalent iq of a 10 year old who just smoked an ounce of salvia...

But he's not self righteous. That's what I don't understand about the hate for him. Yes, he's expressive about his faith, but it's not in a manner that's condemning people that aren't active Christians.
I don't think he's politically motivated either. He's been given all sorts of opportunities that he's turned down because he didn't want to make himself into a sideshow. I don't doubt for a second that Tim Tebow would rather be an NFL QB than some sort of preacher.
I also don't think he's dumb. He speaks well and he seems to be informed about what he's talking about. He's never struck me as the guy who's unwilling to even discuss your points of view.

I hope you're right, but him doing a pro life commercial (i believe it was a superbowl commercial no?) says otherwise, at least to me. I would argue that his tendency to stay away from getting to high profile with his political/religious agenda has everything to do with not wanting to handicap himself as far as his nfl career goes (any more than his terrible skillset as a nfl qb already does lol). I think his political involvement in the 'culture war' (hate using that term btw) will increase after after he comes to the realization that his nfl career is 100% over, but like I said hopefully you're right that doesnt interest him and he will slowly -or, hopefully, quickly- fade from national conciousness.
I also tend to disagree that he's not incredibly dumb, not just because of his religious fundamentalism and low wonderlic but much moreso because of the fact that I can't fathom that his incredible athleticism (for his size) and work ethic wouldn't allow him to become at least a serviceable Nfl starting quarterback if he wasn't just incredibly dumb and completely unable to comprehend complicated football schemes and concepts...

Tebow's issue as a QB is not his decision making skills. If you look at his time in Denver and at Florida, he's actually very good about knowing where to go with the ball. Everybody acknowledges that Tebow can throw a decent deep ball, and it's true because that's the look that he sees the most of. Teams want to play Cover-1 with their receivers near the line so they can have as many guys up to stop the run. The weakness of that look is that you can go down the sideline deep, and that's where Tebow is good at going.
Tebow shows a solid grasp of offenses. He knows where he should the ball, he just sucks at getting it there. He's big and he's strong, but he's not real coordinated such that everything that goes on between the snap and the whistle he's capable of doing. There are plenty of people who are blessed with incredible athleticism but who lack the arm-talent to be a great passer. It's like in baseball where there are great athletes but pitching is a specialized skill. Carlos Gomez isn't going to be a shut down closer.
As for the commercial:

A big deal was made out of it at the time, but in reality it was pretty much nothing. If you remember it was a huge story when it was announced that the commercial was happening, but there was nothing controversial in the actual ad. It was lame.
