Fab Melo waived...

Post#1 » by Kilo » Fri Aug 30, 2013 11:29 pm

Yep, we have a full roster - but Jort's deal is only partially guaranteed.

What's wrong with this cat that the 22nd overall pick in 2012 to waived after one season where he got little playing time on a veteran team.

Getting Melo would have been great before the jorts signing, but i'm pretty sure that contract is guaranteed for the first year.
It's too bad the timing was off. No point wasting money on an end of bench guy now though.

Seems Fab has a work ethic/attitude issue according to Brazilians on the main board. Not good characteristics - but doubly so for a 15th man. Jorts seems to have the right attitude to be a good teammate.

I like Melo's game, but his personality and IQ is suspect. Plus he's basically the same skillset as Drummond, and Joe said he wanted Jorts because he brought a skillset we didn't have already. So even if the timing was different, I'm not sure Joe would have even chosen to sign Melo instead. I think I'd rather have Jorts if I had a choice. I like his hustle/toughness and that he can make 3's. With Dre and Smith we don't really need more shot-blockers, though it would've been interesting seeing Melo and Dre together in the paint on defense.

Considering how the majority of the Celtics' fanbase hated Melo and the fact that their fanbase has a history of overselling their players, no, I do not want Fab Melo.

I like Jorts better and Melo is notorious for underachieving. No thanks.

At least Jorts can be a backup and space the floor as well. A unique bigman with a tough attitude.

No thanks. He's a 7 footer that could only average 6 & 6 for Cuse.

He would basically be a lateral move from Slava Kravstov, maybe even a downgrade. I'd rather have Jorts' shooting and hustle, opposed to a couple more inches of Fab Melo's stiff lifeless game.

A project with an attitude makes me sad--he'll be regretting the way he's acting now for the rest of his life. The Mark Madsens of the world--tiny talents with endless hustle and positivity--get to play pro ball for 15 years, compete for titles, hang out with KG and Kobe, and order the surf n' turf every night, while guys like Sean Williams end up in Lithuania the year after their rookie deals are over.

Fab Melo was a failed project in college. Now he's a failed project in the pros. Going after him is a waste.

A lot depends on what we think he can do. If Detroit is willing to move a couple of dudes to the D-League, I'd be ok with it. I'd also consider a buyout option for Stuckey too if we really wanted him.

This board has an endless obsession with anyone that gets cut, and an ensuing thread is started regardless of the circumstances surrounding the player. Move Stuckey to make room for Melo? I don't care how much you hate Stuck, that just makes zero sense.

So we're supposed to cut Rodney Stuckey to sign a big man who isn't really NBA ready (nor do I think he ever will be).

Fabs the type of guy an obvioussly tanking team uses to see if hes got anything...and yet the Celtics traded him for nothing AND he cleared waivers in spite of multiple teams that could use a young center...or just a center Period.

Fab Melo seemed like an interesting prospect a year ago. Maybe a sleeper that could become an average starting C in the NBA? A role player now seems like his ceiling, and if he doesn't get his mojo going, he will be playing in Europe or the DLeague soon.
