Re: KCP minutes
As I've mentioned before, KCP might get more minutes than you'd otherwise think a rookie in his position would get, because he can defend, rebound and shoot from distance.
Rookies who don't defend as well as he does are way more liable to be riding the bench.

Re: KCP minutes
KCP will get his chance. He's the only true 2 we have on the roster. The guy has a history of playing hard, defending and rebounding, and is known to have a shooting touch. The chance will be there, he just needs to step up and take it. I hope he does.

Re: KCP minutes
If he proves himself to be a consistent shooter and defender, which are his strengths, he will start within a few months. Jennings and KCP with billips and Stuckey off the bench looks like a good balanced guard rotation to me. It's just up to KCP to make the most of the opportunities he gets.

Re: KCP minutes
Honestly, with what he showed with his hustle and quickness, I can see him starting in a few weeks. His Def. alone I think should allow him to start with limited minutes or so. His shot will adjust to the pace of the grind of NBA soon since he did avg 18 ppt a game during college. I can't wait to see him shine.

The opportunity will be there for KCP. Maybe not initially, but rest assured, Stuckey will suck and Billups will need rest.

Derp de derp de derp. I'm just bouncing around the internet looking for amusement. Hey a thread about our lottery pick SG! Stuckey starting? Again? I think this whole thing can be summed up in one picture.

Re: KCP minutes
Barring an amazing camp and preseason, I'd expect KCP to be 7th or 8th man to start the season, averaging about 12-15 minutes a game.
If he isn't starting and getting close to 30 minutes by the end of the year, though, I'll be disappointed.

Re: KCP minutes
Most likely tmorgan is right but KCP is the best def guard we have. I expect him to be starting by the end of the season. If Stuckey is going to start Im guessing Jennings is the 3rd guard.

Re: KCP minutes
Joe has stated that one of the reasons they wanted K.C.P was because he was the guy that went after it each and every night.
Assuming K.C.P is still that same guy he'll win the starting position fairly quickly.
I can see Cheeks giving him 15-25 minutes per game depending on the way the night is going...

Re: KCP minutes
I'd be surprised if KCP's defense is as good as many people are saying it is, right from the outset, at least. The NCAA and Summer League are a long way off from guarding NBA 2 guards every night. If defense is his strength, then hopefully that means he'll be a small liability on defense off the bat and eventually blossom into a lockdown defender.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

It's his effort that's been applauded. The desire and willingness to attack defensively. He's going to pick up a lot of fouls as a rookie. It's just part of the learning curve. Guys like Kobe, D-Wade and other elite wing players know how to draw fouls on good players, and they generally have a field day with rookies.
So, I fully expect him to pick up a lot of bad fouls as a rookie, but I anticipate the effort to be there as well.

Re: KCP minutes
The minutes for both guards spots will be interesting. I don't think we can accurately predict who gets the minutes, or even the starter roles. Camp will be extremely competitive and no one is being handed the starting job. PG - Jennings or Billups? And minutes for Bynum? SG - KCP or Stuckey (or even Billups)? I don't think we can write off Stuckey - he is in a contract year and will be fighting hard for minutes. Billups isn't going to expect 35-40mpg, but I'm sure he is expecting to start. Jennings has talent, and he probably is expecting 35-40mpg. And KCP has the most potential out of all of them. How fast will he pick up the nuances of playing in the NBA? How much will Cheeks let him go out there and learn on the job?
I know one thing - all this competition will be good and everyone will have to bring their "A" game, otherwise they will be sitting on the pine. This is a big difference from the last couple of years.

Re: KCP minutes
It's really hard to adjust to the NBA, especially for players who aren't one on one types. His shooting rhythm will take time to redevelop--it takes some phenomenal college shooters years to adjust to NBA size and speed. It'd be great if he made a quicker transition than most 20 year old wings, but I have a hard time seeing Cheeks playing him through his rookie bumps when we're trying to win as many games as possible.
12 minute to start, and then it all depends on his development is my guess.

Re: KCP minutes
Inefficient, poor shot selection, poor handles, not a slasher, lacks strength, quickness, and explosiveness, can't penetrate or create for others, poor assist/turnover ratio, and surprisingly mediocre at the line.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Re: KCP minutes
^You could do that to anyone in this draft.
Trey Burke: Short, slow, inability to get into the paint at times, poor man to man defense, too many jump shots, lack of explosiveness, passed on by many
Ben McLemore: Disappears throughout games, very inconsistent, poor handles, can't create for himself, not a good jump shooter off the dribble, low basketball IQ, mediocre lateral quickness, doesn't have the "number one option" mentality.
Nerlens Noel: Too skinny, no real offensive game, injury prone, no jump shot, can't create for himself, not a good passer, terrible free throw shooter, doesn't possess the strength to compete at the NBA level
As for your points...
Many of them are off base. Since when is nearly 19ppg on 13 shots per game, at a 58% TS inefficient? It's not. His poor shot selection was in part due to the fact that he had NO HELP at all at Georgia. And besides, he shot a very good percentage on pull up jumpers, assuming you're referring to all of the contested pull ups he took in college. His strength is fine, he's 6'5 205 lbs. His speed/quickness/explosiveness were exactly why he was so appealing as a prospect. He has plenty of explosiveness/quickness. Don't let me tell you though, see for yourself:

I get your point but KCP obviously doesn't lack quickness or explosiveness.

We should trade them both to the New York Liberty for Laimbeer's coaching expertise.
