Would You Rather...: Lopez/Pierce vs. Durant/Perkins

Post#1 » by ecuhus1981 » Wed Sep 4, 2013 12:43 am

I know, I KNOW, I'm already thinking about flipping our fortunes for more trades, and we haven't even seen this lineup perform yet. The more I hear about Durant aligning with Jay-Z and his time spent in Brooklyn this summer, though, the more I think a blockbuster "could" occur near the trade deadline.

All trade discussion for Durant starts with our All-Star C, likely with MUCH more incentive. While I would hate to see Pierce go, he would be more likely to be packaged with Lopez, due to his expiring contract (versus, for example, Joe Johnson and his 3 remaining years).

So, '13-'14 lineup sight unseen, WOULD YOU DO IT?

It could occur but not this trade deadline but hypothetically I would say, I'm taking Durant/Perkins easily. Parting with Lopez would be a bit difficult but it's easily a move you can't think twice about.

I'm pretty sure this would be a unanimous decision.

Uhh, there's only one answer to this. No one in their right mind would not take Durant in this deal, even if it comes with the worst starter in the league.

It's true, I'd be stoked to add KD to an already salty core lineup! But I thought more would be split, considering our biggest strengths this season (low-post scoring, offensive versatility) would severely suffer. But who am I kidding, the #2 player on the planet is worth every penny!

I think though that unless we can find a 3rd team who falls in love with Pierce (or Johnson! ) and can flip a a high-upside young SF to the Thunder, OKC is more likely to hold onto their franchise player until he can bolt in 2016. In that summer, unless we make other cap-clogging moves, we'll have the capspace to sign him for free!

your scoring doesnt suffer by adding the NBA's best scorer. i cant imagine anyone even hesitating a split second to do this. you get a top 2 NBA player who is the same age as lopez and who doesnt have injury questions for peanuts in comparison.

id do this trade even if a ton more was included on our end

Well, I was figuring we would have to add more, like Taylor, Plumlee and the rights to Bogdanovic. We can't make "fair value" (who can?), but if KD demanded a trade to us, we could make a viable exchange offer.
