It really is a different game. Individual technique and team play matter much more, physical attributes matter less. Coaching matters more as well.

Well, Russia were really bad but part of that had to do with Sweden not letting them getting anything easy. They had huge troubles going to the basket. Swedens team has alot of upside, a very young team (maybe youngest in the competition?) but still has some major weaknesses. We'll see against Turkey tommorow which is pretty much a must win game for Sweden. But ultimately, I think they are a few years away from competing at the absolute top level, as most of their players are really young. Their starting PG today is the youngest player in eurobasket; born in 1996. That's pretty impressive.

Sure you can. Serbian and Slovenian basketball federation admitted they do exactly that.
You can't do that as FIBA etc. As a national federation you should.
It's the only way to make sure people appreciate basketball, by showing that only the best the country develops can play for the national team. I still don't understand how Mullens has more connection to British basketball than Ibaka has to Spanish basketball.

I didn't know that killing the Euro game meant being eliminated from the first group stage.

“Every team has the right to one naturalized player,” explained Dejan Lekic, the secretary general of Macedonia’s basketball federation. “He came, he liked our country, he liked us and everyone liked him. He is Macedonian in full now.” I mean, c'mon.
P.s.: And this is coming from me, someone who's very anti-nationalism.
It's starting to get more extreme in FIBA Asia. More recently, almost every team has had a token Black player from the U.S.
Do you remember former Wizards/Nets player Jarvis Hayes? He played for Qatar.
JaVale McGee was linked to the Philippines and could still technically happen since they qualified for the 2014 World Basketball Cup. But no worries, they were able to secure the services of former Lakers draft pick Marcus Douthit for some years now.
Quincy Davis showing some of his Taiwanese Pride right here!
The list goes on. J.R. Henderson aka Sakuragi is the other guy on Team Japan. It's only a matter of time where teams will find ways to exploit the rule even more, which Qatar already has been causing some controversy with .
Greece just smashed Turkey. Its safe to say that Turkoglu its an x player,0-9. Asik was awful too, considering that Bourousis scored 21, 8-10 in just 19 min. Only Ersan showed up on the game.

Bourousis scored almost all of his points against Semih Erden

Erden is gargabe... always laughing on court rather than play difense and be focused on the game...
BTW Greece is the real favourite for the GOLD in my opinion... they're that good. Maybe even better than Spain...
Asik didn't play bad, most of the opposition big's numbers were against Erden who is a baaaad basketball player. Hedo shouldn't be allowed to touch a basketball. Ilyasova played terrible in the first two games, put a good effort tonight but it had no effect on the scoreline overall because the team is terrible.

NBA players are grossly overrated...half of them would be noones in europe...
At certain moments, always unforeseen, I become happy… I look at strangers near as if I had known them all my life… everything fills me with affection… It may be an hour before the mood passes, but ultimately I seem to understand no more space in sig

Your problem are:
1) Boscia is done and shouldn't coach anymore... 2) Hedo is done and shouldn't play anymore... 3) Your team has talent but is not balanced: too many forwards and centers and few decent backcourt guards (if any)... in international competitions you need premiere class PGs and SGs or you go home quickly...
Turkey and Russia 2 of the favorites already go home?

Veselý is the leading rebounder (and till today a 20/10 player) though

That doesn't matter. They are representing country not basketball. It is a country based competition. It's not about who deserve which player because or alleged development or anything.
I looked Mullens case up. He has English mother. I cannot see how that less important than somebody playing in Spain for opportunity. I mean should Ibaka play for Congo, Spain, USA... later when washed he may play somewhere else... On the other hand Mullens is half-English, half-American and no matter where he learned to play that'll never change and it is a good enough reason to play for both countries. Of course some countries would manufacture those ancestries to claim someone eligible, but still. Let's say both Mullens' parents were British - by your logic, he should be still eligible for USA only because he played college there? Being from somewhere, even partially, is primal reason to represent that country. Then it is up to the player what he identifies with.
But I guess Shaq is German by your standards - he grew up there, started playing there, it doesn't matter who are his parents, right? But then he moved to USA and become USA eligible
EDIT: I wonder what rules would you suggest for road cycling
