CLIPPERS SIGN BRANDON DAVIES

Post#2 » by mkwest » Thu Sep 5, 2013 9:27 pm

The Los Angeles Clippers announced today that they have signed forward Brandon Davies. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We really liked Brandon in Summer League,” Clippers Head Coach and Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations Doc Rivers said. “We like his ability to play multiple positions and he fits with our team. He understands team basketball and has been in here all summer working on his game.”

Davies, 22, was a member of the Clippers 2013 Summer League team in Las Vegas, averaging 5.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 15.8 minutes of play over five games. He was undrafted out of BYU in the 2013 NBA Draft.

The forward averaged 12.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 24.1 minutes over his four-year collegiate career for the Cougars. As a senior, he averaged 17.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.0 blocks in 36 games played (all starts). He was named to the All-West Coast Conference First Team as a junior and senior.

A star at Provo High School in Utah, Davies led his high school team to state titles his sophomore and junior seasons, plus a runner-up finish his senior year.

We must be high on this guy for some reason, I didn't see it in the Summer League.

Is he in any way, this 'tough defensive' guy we need??

DAVIES READY TO EARN ROSTER SPOT

“It did get me down,” Davies said of not getting selected, “but less than 10 minutes after the Draft I get this call with this amazing deal which happened to be better than some of the guys who did get drafted got.

“I can definitely use that as fuel, seeing some guys that got drafted that I feel like I can probably be better than, whether that’s now or in the long run. I just know myself. I know I’m going to work every day and try to get better every day.”

He averaged 5.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in Vegas, including a starting nod in the final game. A week later he was living in Los Angeles, working out at the Clippers’ facility each morning and playing pickup basketball into the early afternoon.

“My first day that I got out here I was doing a one-on-one workout with Blake Griffin,” Davies said. “After that we’re playing pickup. I’ve had to guard Kevin Durant and Carmelo and Metta World Peace and a lot of other great players, who I’ve grown up watching. It’s one of those things where if the stuff you’re doing here doesn’t get you better then basketball’s not for you.”

“We’re in here every day shooting,” Davies said. “Those are the shots the coaches have me going through, shots I’m going to get in a game. We drill that every day. I’m definitely getting more comfortable at it and the more confident I get the more I’ll knock down. Besides the drills that they have me going through on the shooting side of it, there are also defensive drills and things like that. Me personally, I just try to make sure my energy’s high and make sure I’m vocal at the defensive end of the floor and trying to bring that extra spark and try to do the little things that they want me to do.”

Hope he pans out defensively.

I don't want Jamison on my floor.

Similar collegiate stats to Antawn Jamison, but different game. Davies brings hustle and energy. He's a little bit foul prone because of that. He's a good shooter and has a nice back-to-the-basket game (baby hooks and up-and-unders). I don't think you're looking at the guy as anything other than an end of the bench type of guy, are you? He's a high character, smart kid, who rebounds defensively and can knock down shots when called upon. I don't think there's a team in the league that wouldn't like that stuff from their 13th man.

Ya thats definetely Johnny Flynn. Maybe he could take the 3rd string PG sport over Maalik Wayns.

Davies was originally signed to a partially guaranteed deal. He was given money that would have counted against the cap until November, similar to a signing bonus. Now Davies is a Clipper for the season.

This is the first time that the organization is officially announcing that he has been signed.

It's still a make-good contract that is partially guaranteed with him having the chance to make the roster in training camp.

He has a chance to have a big role if he really works hard. Has the size and skill to fill needs.

Trey could never stay healthy and it seemed he was content with just watching on the bench. There were plenty of times last year where if Trey worked hard and was healthy he could of got some legit time since we needed more offense from our bigs.

Same thing this year from Davies but on the other side we need an energy d guy and any post game work is a bonus. Should be even easier for him since there is no clear cut sixth man big like Odom was its a battle for minutes being Blake and DJ.
