What would be the point? A teams bench would have almost no impact on the outcome of games.

60's a little low... but I agree with this idea. So many games in such a relatively short period of time is the reason you see so many teams broken down by the playoffs in regard to injury or fatigue.

That's a big part of the reason there's such little parity among champions. A guy like Lebron who doesn't get injured and also happens to be the best player in the league always seems to come out on top.

Then again maybe its all relative, and the Lebrons of the league will be better rested and in better shape and will still dominate. Either way- seeing squads at full strength is always a better product

lol, no way will they shorten the total # of games, they would lose money. They don't lose money by shortening the games though, they make more $$.

The league would lose loads of money from shortening games, less commercials, less breaks, less time outs etc.
and changing the length of games or seasons would mean tossing away 35+ years of statistics... aren't we having enough trouble deciding if Bill Rusell is the GOAT Center without having to start compensating for altered schedules?
Allow larger rosters - players would be more rested, there would be more international players (hence, more exposure internationally and more cash), easier for teams to "gamble" on mediocore players (more lincanities ...) and more possible starting fives, adding for variety in games...

Does anyone want to imagine comparing Wggins to Jordan in 10 years? (yeah, but wiggins played only 34 minutes per game, and never fouled out (assuming we're also changing the foul limit to 5...) )

More chance of the NBA adding european teams to the league :D

how would they make MORE money by shortening the games? they would make less for sure. the amount of advertising they would lose in that 10min would be millions per game lost

I would say 90% of games in the NBA are within a few points going into the 4th quarter. 40 min games are perfect and less amount of games would be better.

Why is the NFL so great? Because they only play 16 games and every game matters. One game playoff series. Anything can happen. Why is College basketball so great. 1 and done playoff system.

NBA and MLB is milked. If the NFL played 60 game seasons and 7 games for each playoff match up nobody would care about the NFL or watch it.

Most NBA games are determined in the fourth quarter. How many times do we see teams make huge 20pt come-backs in the fourth.

I always say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Keep the 48 minutes but play 58 games. Each team plays 1 home and 1 away against all other teams. Eliminate conferences and divisions, top 16 make the playoffs. Improved play quality from less fatigued players less games means each game means more.

College fan or international fan right this nonsense? Why don't the FIBA guys man up and play 48 min instead?

The most successful league in the world, the elite league in the world, has played 48 minutes a game for 60 years. The kids and lesser leagues have altered that formula. You tell me who's on top.

all this would do is make bench players less valuable.

I will never support such idea, however I would drastically decrease the length and number of timeouts, just one minute at most like in FIBA basketball. Sometimes, watching an NBA game is endless...

how can you be sure 60 games will make them healthier?

The # of games isn't the only factor. They practice atleast once a day, lift 2/3 x / day ... playing a 48 min game of basketball (which no one does... probably 40 min) isn't a big deal to them.

True. They can change the playoffs to last longer by having the top 10 teams ....in other words, fans want to see more playoff games than regular season games.

If anything, they should increase the minutes. Will give the bench a better role, and will make it a whole team effort. Than you can definitly say the best team won.
