OT: NBA League Pass

Post#1 » by LAUGHING » Wed Sep 11, 2013 9:00 pm

Hello,

Was wondering if any of you plan to get/renew your nba league pass for this season. I will be a first time user to this due to having no more cable. I have heard some things about the blackouts and what not, all i really want to do is watch the raptors, and the other teams will just be a bonus.

Will raptor games be blacked out if i sign up for the Canadian league pass? If so, what should i do to bypass this?

Also, i heard it will be around $189 this year for earlybirds, will it be worth it?

I direct you to this thread

viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1267303&start=30

On page 3 I explain how I circumvent blackouts.. there are other - probably better and/or free - methods but it worked for me last season.

For me, the blackouts only happened while the game was on, but as soon as it was over you could watch it.

I actually like it better that way because you can skip all the commercials and free throws.

Last year was my first year purchasing league pass and I will be doing it again this year. I got the canadian (international) version.

I was able to watch raptors games by using a VPN called hide my ass, which changes your IP address to somewhere other than canada, which then allows you to watch raptors games. Hide my ass does cost money (approx 90 bucks), but I found it to be worth it (secure, fast, easy to use). I know there is a free way to un-blackout games , but someone else will have to help out with that.

League pass is a really good purchase though. Every team, every regular season game + playoffs...

I plan to get it this year.

I purchased privateinternetaccess.com ($30/year) to give me both a US (or other international) IP as well as not logging my internet usage.

I just started thinking about this last night, I need a plan.

Last year I had LP but my only device for accessing it (other than sitting at my 19" monitor for hours, which I don't like) was Xbox 360. The 360 LP app was so bad - blackout games wouldn't be available for days afterwards, often not until another game had been played. Was useless basically. So I ended up streaming most games, which is also annoying.

Then I got Unblockus vpn for netflix and it works a treat, so I guess this year I will be signing up for a VPN (not unblockus, because it doesn't work with LP) and assigning a different IP.

Just to clarify, it doesn't matter when I sign up what my location is unless I want to mess with the pricing, what matters is when I log in, yes?

Would be happy to hear suggestions on a good VPN service that I can enter the info into Xbox 360...

Actually, I'd like to confirm if the canadian league pass has the playoffs? I'm pretty sure my US league pass did not...

How technical is all this changing VPN stuff? I don't want to pay for another fee just to watch league pass, but if i really have to i guess i have no choice. Thing is, i don't know much about computers, so hopefully it won't be too difficult lol

NBA LP is bad and it goes way beyond their blackout issues. I've been with them for 3 years and I'm finally giving up on League Pass this year. Frustrating technical problems, non-existing customer support, and games not streaming until 5 minutes into the 1st quarter were too much for me to handle. I remember games being mixed up, like I would try to watch Toronto vs Orlando and it would be Memphis vs New Orleans or something. Worst part is they wouldn't fix it, I would just miss the game completely. Also, if you're watching an archived game, NBA LP pretty much tells you in advance if the game is going into overtime. Thanks for the spoilers

Oh, and they will auto-bill you after every season unless you cancel completely. **** that ****.

Anyone know anything about Ballstreams?

I think Canadian and International LP are the same now. I had it last year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There are pretty easy ways to get around the blackouts and i was able to watch all the playoffs

Honestly, I never can catch a live game because of the kids, but I do suggest getting synergy sports if you don't mind watching the games after the fact. It is about $45 for the Raptors season pass, plus you get access to synergy stats which makes it more than worth it. I mean you can scout player tendencies and how team's run plays which is mind-blowing. Leaguepass is worth it if you need it right away, but Raptor games are blocked.

Every year I buy the NBA/NHL/NFL/MLB package, although this summer was the first time not picking up the MLB.
I am considering ditching NHL, simply because there are so many games available in Canada, and I tend to watch more NBA games (from cities/teams other than Toronto) than I do hockey. It's well worth my penny, that's for sure.

Is there an NHL version where you can watch Leaf games? I don't want to pay another $100 for gamecenter on top of league pass.

It's not bad - what do you use to watch games - on your computer?

They give you instructions with pictures, you are changing your DNS which is just a string of numbers in easy to find settings in your network connections. Go look at the instructions on Uno Telly or something similar and see if you feel comfortable.

If you sign up for one of the paid VPN services, it's trivial. You set it up and forget it. If you use a PC, you'll basically have a little application running in your system tray that easily allows you to switch between different (US, Canadian, international) servers.

That sounds like an awesome deal. Thanks man. You don't need a VPN for this either?
