Wizards front office adjusments

Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has

promoted Tommy Sheppard to senior vice president of basketball operations.
Marc Eversley as vice president of scouting
Frank Ross as director of player personnel
Greg Ballard as advance pro scout
Thomas Knox as director of player performance and rehabilitation while
promoting Ed Tapscott to vice president of player programs,
Pat Sullivan to assistant coach,
Brett Greenberg to director of basketball analytics/salary cap management,
Bryan Oringher to video coordinator and Ryan Richman to assistant video coordinator.

So who is Thomas Knox ?

So what's it all mean? Looks like some musical chairs to me. Except the Greg Ballard part.

Nice to see Tommy Sheppard get a promotion, and presumably a pay raise. I like him (just like EVERYONE who's ever met him). Would rather see him in Grunfeld's position, but...gotta unseat Grunfeld first.

re: Knox - I think it's a good thing to have a "Director of player Rehab." The franchise's "medical" staff had always seemed to be a disorganized collection on "strength coaches" and "trainers." I'm sure they are good at what they do, but there has never seemed to be much in the way of "rehabilitation" occurring, which was made all too apparent when Arenas was basically allowed to come up with his own rehab plan (remember the parachute sprints?).

I hear ya. One has to wonder if anyone could have gotten Gil to follow a team plan though. Gil liked to march to his own beat. I remember he even played on blacktop in DC alone the way and that caused concerns as well. Just to much pounding on that knee before it was ready for it.

vs.. Look at D Rose. I know he wasn't going to play last year before the season even started.

At least the Wizards last year seemed to have a different approach. Randy was very hands off about rushing players back and they did seem to give players more time heal. Nene was an issue though. They needed him out there to gel with the team and there was no way he would be healed without taking a full 4-5 off which he has now done.

But it does look like there is still room to improve and this position is a step in the right direction. I don't want to see injuries like Kevin S had last year where he pulled muscle in his lower leg. Or Trevor A and Booker. With Booker it appears to be over training. But I have heard him comment on that and it seems he is learn where to draw the line so he can stay healthier. Its a smaller story for the Wizards but a healthy Booker for the year would be real interesting. He does rebound well.

Nah, Tapscott is a good guy. The position he's in is pretty ideal for him and the players -- especially the younger ones. "Player Programs" means he's not involved in the day-to-day basketball operations. His role will be to manage community outreach and the things the team and the league does to help the players off-court. This'll be things like mentoring, marketing, charitable appeareances and giving, and...other stuff. It's a much better position for him than coach or "player development." He'll sorta be a personal development guy. I like this shift in his responsibilities.

Agree (Tapscott was in-charge of player development), but Tapscott got a promotion, he's a VP now

DiLeo was most recently general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Wizards have lost several key members of their front office this offseason to promotions with other teams.

DiLeo is pretty much always the guy credited for the Sixers in general good drafting (Iguodala, Thad, Holiday), and did a little of everything including coaching when needed. Washington picked up a quality guy.
