We traded it for tyrus Thomas

It's still got some protection for a few years.

Also EArl is like the tyrus Thomas of realgm. Except worse.

We traded a future pick with decreasing protection to Chicago for Tyrus Thomas (yuck)in 2009 and since we've been bad for so long, we still haven't conveyed that pick to them. If we're below 10 this year, then we owe them a pick outside the top 8 in 2015, and if we're still bad then, it's a fully unprotected pick in 2016.

To not finish with the 11-14 pick.

Spoiler:
We lose our pick to CHI if we're out of the top 10, we obviously make the playoffs if the pick is above 14. Just don't want to be in the dreaded "miss the playoffs, still don't have a pick" zone.

You also have that pick from the Blazers. Could mean something at seasons end.

Who cares about the Gamecocks. The NFL season is ruined for me. Another 6-10 Panthers season where we start 3-9 and "feel good season finish" to screw the draft position

I stopped giving a **** about the Panthers and the NFL altogether long ago. The Gamecocks are my team since I go to USC, but damn even those games have been underwhelming.

Stop caring and just watch the good teams is the best advice I can give.

It's been a pathetic witch hunt by the AFL to try and stick it to The Bombers and especially Hird that is summed up here to perfect.

Pathetic.

If anything I think the AFL have been doing their best to cover the whole thing up.

Demetriou doesn't want scandal, he rang and warned Essendon before the investigation started.

That letter from the Doc to Hird was pretty damning. His last sentence of "would you inject your own kids with this" summed it up pretty well.

A lot of people are saying that you guys got off lightly, I agree.

Essendon approached the AFL with what had been going on.

Demetriou has, and has always had (not just with this, with everything he has done as the head cheese), an agenda that is self serving.

This whole thing is bigger than him and the AFL but he is too big headed to seek help in how it should have been handled and instead made a total balls up of it.

It just proves how unprepared the commish is at the AFL to take the game into it's next evolution as a sport because they have no idea on how to handle something like this.

Essendon may have done some questionable things (and even that is still not confirmed) but the AFL has made a total meal of the "investigation".

They just formed a lynch mob with Demetriou at the front of the pack with a pitch fork looking for a scape goat.

I agree that Demtriou has made of a meal of it, I just think he's done it the other way at first and tried to keep it all quiet and hidden.

which just couldn't be done.

Man i thought this nonsense was done with. Wish theyd stop talking about it and focus on the finals. It ruined the season dont need it to put a cloud over the finals too.

If it wasn't for FF I would watch about 3 Panther's games at the start of the season and then be done with the NFL. EPL >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>NFL for me, I just can't get into a sport where every 5 minutes I have to watch a guy lay on the ground with a concussion or blown knee.

i am watching the dockers vs swans game on dvr now. i havent seen a score yet (easy to avoid afl scores). right now dockers up 34-13 early in 2nd. this is the first time i have had the chance to catch freo all year. they look decidedly better than last two years. was it just a coaching change that made this improvement or something else? like finally getting healthy or a superstar newcomer? i hope i didnt just jinx them.

i still watch a ton of NFL, but i dont obsess over it like i do chelsea and USMNT. when chelsea loses a game it ruins my day. when the panthers lose, its a blip on my day.

the announcers keep saying they have never seen a team press on defense as well as this freo team is doing today. that seems to be some really high praise. it does feel like freo is playing with 10 extra men.

2nd half getting ready to start.

^^^^ Edit - read this after you finish watching the game. It'll spoil the result.

Just a coach man. Ross Lyon is just a great great coach.

The talk about freo for a few years is they are good but just had too many injuries throughout the year to be consistent and make the finals. Well they've had a lot of injuries this year and their 3 key position players have been out a lot of the season and they've managed to keep winning and play great footy.

Ross just has the ability to get the most out of his team, enforce a second to none system (in terms of team structure and set up) and imply a suffocating defese.

The same thing happened when he went to st kilda. They were such a talented team for years but really soft and not great defensively. He got there and turned them into one of the toughest teams in the comp and the best defensive team in the comp. They didn't win a premiership in the end but they were as close as you could ever get (think spurs this year). Literally an unlucky bounce in both the geelong granny and the collingwood granny is what decided the out come of those grannies.

This freo team is not overly talented like hawthorn for example but they are just so great defensively and structure up really well. Will be a tough game on Saturday.
