With the recent events, i just see him wasting away in Cleveland now. He is old, 28 years old, has a big contract, but he could still probably get a low first or second round pick.
Should the Browns go ahead and trade Joe Thomas for some value?

Native Clevelander here...uhhh....No.
Why would the Browns trade that away when they still don't even have their QB of the future?
Low first or high second? I'd guarantee Thomas wouldn't get moved for that little. Thomas is playing himself into the hall of fame at this pace.
Trading him, even for a 1st rounder, is one step forward but two steps back. They'd need a top 5 LT in order to even TRY to maintain that type of production at LT. RB is different. We can bring in a FA or 3rd round draft pick and still get production.
Ogden played until 34 or 35yrs.
Jones played until 34 or 35. I think he tried to come back but had an injury, so he may very well have played longer.
Thomas has at least 6-7 more seasons in him at a high level. If anyone on the team is safe its Thomas.

RB's are replaceable LT's of his quality are not.

Then in 1-2 years after they select their franchise QB, they will be trying to find the next Joe Thomas to protect him..doesn't make sense.

Its clear the Browns will go after their QB next season. Thomas will be what...29?
A rookie QB with a potential hall-of-fame LT that has at least 5-6 years left in the tank...that doesn't make sense?

^ agree, just like snazel said, Thomas will be very productive and probably a canidate for the hall of fame, but it would be pointless to be productive for the next 5 years on a bad team. and even if the Browns get the QB that they want, it will still take him a minimum of 3 years, like Arron Rodger, Matt Ryan, Manning, Brady, or Drew Brees, in the NFL to be relavant

I'm Confused.
My post meant that it doesn't make sense to trade Thomas when a rookie QB (should we get one) will be getting pro-bowl quality blind-side protection for at least 6 years, if not more.
Don't you want young QBs to be placed into the best position possible to succeed?
Regardless, the Browns won't be dealing Thomas. He's essentially one of the few (if the only) "untouchable" on the team.

The Browns' front 7 is looking very good and their receiving core is showing potential. If they can acquire a quarterback, running back, some help for the offensive line, and a few cornerbacks(can be done in one off-season when you have money to spend and many draft picks), I could see the Browns being elite as early as next year. It would require luck, but it is possible. Honestly when you're talking about one of the elite offensive linemen in football in his prime, they would have to receive a first round pick minimum. Most good teams today can't afford his salary, so it would be hard to trade him anyways.

After yesterday's game? They're not tanking hard enough! Get rid of him!
No...hell no. They shouldn't get rid of him.

Franchise LTs are too hard to find, and 28 is young for a OL. Most linemen can play well into their 30s no problem.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

How does trading the best offensive linemen in the NFL for a low first rounder help your team? Especially when he has potentially 7 more pro bowl seasons left in him.

They should have traded him for a low first or a second round pick while they had the chance.
