In the last 10 years the worst team has only won the lottery twice, while the teams with the 5-9 worst records have won the lottery 6 times, with DRose going to the 9th worst team in the league in 2008. Just goes to show how random (or how rigged?) the lottery can be.

Right, the team with the worst record gets a 25% chance.

The team with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, best records get basically the same chance.

As long as we finish in the bottom 4, we essentially have a 1 in 4 (25% chance of getting the top pic). I realize this isn't a statistical guarantee as teams 5-13 also have a fraction of a chance if you look at the official lottery odds, but name a team in recent history that has gotten a top pick who DID NOT finish in the bottom 4. (HINT: Answer is not many.)

But second, third or fourth worst record leaves you with less than 25% chance at the top pick. If you have the worst record, it's ONLY 25% that you get the top pick. It gives you the best chances to get the top pick, and even then it's ONLY 25%, is what I'm saying.

Planning for pick 1 alone is a setup for huge disappointment.

As most of you guys posted worst record isn't a shoe in.

As a suns fan, I'll be ecstatic if the Suns can get one of 4 top players in the draft in 2014.
And worst record means at minimum they pick top 4... That's the only guarantee.

Basically my point is plan for the worst (lowest pick) but hope for the best (pick 1).

Suns position and lowest pick table.
- worst record = pick 4
- second worst record = pick 5
- third worst record = pick 6

Now depending on who rise or drops, the suns should strategically position themselves accordingly.

But on the bright side it is a deep draft this year so the top 5 players should be much better than the draft we just went through. I don't think people are counting on the first pick, most people here understand the lottery pretty well.

Gotta admit though, it would be a hell of a first lottery win if we do get lucky. If Wiggins is what people think he could be, our team has been built (in what would be 2 offseasons) into a contender that may lead to our first championship.

^I've got friends here in NZ who know how ridiculously passionate I am about my Suns, so if we win that #1 pick I'm going to ram it down their goddamn throats.

So many years when Nash/Amare/Marion were here I'd say going into the season 'it's our year' or 'If only X didn't get hurt' etc, and they've laughed at me while they masquerade as Heat and Lakers fans.

My mate coldbyfletch knows what I'm talking about, although he's a Magic fan and if they win the bloody top pick again he might be de-friended...

I just want to WIN something dammit!

Bledsoe, Goodwin, Len and Wiggins would be hands down the best and most athletic young core in the NBA.

You could put Me, Tastic, SDU, NF33IH with Wiggins and it would still b the most exciting young core in the NBA :)

Get Wiggins and you're set. However, a top PF prospect would fit with that core too.

Ha.... I know of few of you 'down-underwearers' have to be over 30,
and according to many fountain of youth infatuaters,
past your prime and no longer worthy of being part of a young team. (not my opinion)

Sorry.... though I'd pay to watch your beer infested line up.

Draft-fever sufferers need to realize its not all about Wiggins here... even a 4th or 5th pick is good. Consider landing top PG Marcus Smart and then working a deal somewheres. Leverage + assets = advantage McDo. There are many ways to benefit from a top pick, even if it is not 1 or 2.

Besides.... isn't it completely possible Archie G can man the SF spot ? The kid is still growing and has the all the tools needed.

Haha yeah you got me Frank. Dead on about the young lineup and Archie too, we won't know what we have and what we can expect til some of these youngsters actually see the court. Irrespective, the nucleus is good and our future is bright.

Let's just draft #5 and then convince #1 and #4 to bring their talents to the desert.

Of course we all want Wiggins but Randle, Parker, Exum, Smart, Gordon would all be really exciting too.

Exam and Smart aren`t enticing to me with Bledsoe, Dragic and Goodwin on board.

Parker or Randle, on the other hand, would be a forward tailor made for our team.

Good read about Julius Randle and top of the draft on ESPN: Should Julius Randle be taken No. 1?
Some interesting quotes:

It's almost become a formality whether you're a fan of the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns or even Boston Celtics. You pray for your team to drop game after game so you can be the clubhouse leader and receive the most pingpong balls in the Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes.

There's just one issue. This won't be the Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes.
"He's no lock," one NBA executive said of Wiggins being tabbed with the top pick. "He has all the physical tools, but mental makeup is the biggest question with Wiggins."

"He has a lot of things he must show this year," added another high-ranking NBA guy. "His shot must improve and he has to develop a sense of urgency and a better focus."
Randle can be an unstoppable force. He's big, extremely strong and ultra-athletic, and he plays with a high motor. He's got a defined position at power forward, and his game will easily translate to the next level. He's about production and potential.

"He can absolutely be the No. 1 pick," one general manager said.

There was something else missing in summer 2012. It was Parker who sat out the entire recruiting period with an injury. He entered that summer as the No. 1 player in the country, but didn't even have an opportunity to defend his belt. Out of sight, out of mind.

"Don't sleep on Parker," one NBA scout said. "He's not the athlete of Wiggins or Randle, but he's a terrific player. He has a high [basketball] IQ, and isn't afraid of anyone."

The 6-8, 235-pound Parker can score in a multitude of ways. He can shoot the 3, has a picturesque midrange game and also can score in the post. He's a gifted passer, rebounds well for his position and is a deceptive athlete.

"He's more athletic than people think," another NBA executive said. "And no one has really seen him since his junior year of high school. He wasn't right in all the All-Star games."
"I think both Randle and Parker both have a shot at No. 1," one NBA general manager said. "This isn't just about Wiggins."

Make no mistake, Wiggins still remains the preseason favorite for the No. 1 overall pick despite concerns from NBA folks. He's extremely quick off his feet, is deadly in transition and he can be terrific on the defensive end with his length and athleticism.
There wasn't a "franchise" player in the 2013 NBA draft, but that's not the case with the next crop. Wiggins, Randle and Parker are all different players yet all possess a similar characteristic: star potential.

NBA folks already are divided with whom they'd take if blessed with the No. 1 pick this time around. The majority polled have said it would be Wiggins, but Randle, Parker -- and even Arizona forward Aaron Gordon -- also have received plenty of consideration.

It's hard for me to have an opinion on these guys until I see them play in college. Tons of guys look great at the high school level. If they are going to be really good players at the pro level, especially from the get-go, they better dominate in college.

Parker is my favorite so far. He has good character, good IQ, good (not great) athleticism, and is just a much better all around player than I see in anyone else in the draft.

hehehe

I am out of the way.... its Dragic, Bledsoe, Tucker, Goodwin (edit out Griffin ), and theGORTAT you need be concerned with.

You guys are so hell bent on us being bad, when truly this team will be very bothersome to many others in the league.

I don't expect much more than 30 wins, but will not be surprised if this roster gels enough to beat anyone, any given night. It is built to pressure teams on both ends of the court, and is loaded with athletic players who, for the most part, have either something to prove or are fighting for their next job.

To a certain degree, they mimic our coach during his playing career. This could be a good mix, and no way does it say we have shelved the season for the draft.
