Yeah over the past week I've been fairly intrigued by the added look Wafer could give us. Hard to see him crack a healthy rotation, but it'd be nice to have a player like that to throw in at times. He only had one really good year, but it was his only season on a talented Houston roster somewhat like what he'd play on here. I wonder how much of that athleticism he still has. Only 28.

Wafer was a decent scorer that one season

19 mpg | 10 ppg | 45% FG | 39% 3PFG
He was a very nice bench player for them that year. Really wanted him that offseason. I've always felt we could use that kind of creator on the bench to break things up when necessary. There are times when we really don't have anyone breaking down the defense off the dribble, typically when Wade is lagging physically (and LeBron is settling for jumpers). Again, I don't see him cracking the rotation, but his speed and scoring instincts could really come in handy at times. Always forget he's 6-5. He zips around more like a smaller guard. I can see Ray's role, at least in the regular season, shrinking this upcoming season. Hopefully Spo takes the ball out of his hands more. He wanted to stick it in Boston's face, and he did. He had a nice season and capped it off with the greatest shot ever. Now he can relax and let a Wafer split some of his duties during the year.
Having Beasley at the end of the front court rotation and Wafer on the guard bubble would definitely ease my past concerns of reserve scoring. We've really been limited to Ray/Miller in that regard, and they're a little too far on the wrong side of 30 to do it consistently, not to mention, neither can have the offense run through them a la Beasley via the high post.

Jesus (pun not intended), it still gives me goosebumps to think we signed Ray Allen thinking about all the huge shots he hit against us, and he hits the biggest shot of all for us. I love you, Jesus Shuttlesworth.

Heat taking look at free agent Roger Mason Jr
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miam ... 3962.story
Honestly dont really see the point, can he really do anything that Lewis or Battier or Allen can't? We should have just kept Ennis if we wanted another wing shooter. Roger Mason is a good shooter but he's 33 and cant really do anything else.
Von Rafer can create and possible defend at a higher level, that's a more needed skillset for us now i believe.
Justin Hamilton as a big stretch Center would be my seconed option for the last spot, We can't really count on Oden giving us anything.

Love Mason's shooting, but I completely agree. Too one-dimensional and redundant. Wafer can switch things up more drastically, and play a poor-man's Wade role, but with perimeter shooting ability. Mason is just a poor-man's Ray for us.
Jorts not being able to make it gives me pause on Hamilton, though I do see the slightest potential if he shoots the lights out.

Give me Wafer over Mason. He hasn't been an NBA-caliber player in nearly five years. No one's heard of him, and he hasn't gotten minutes on bottom dwellers. That says a lot.

I would love for the Heat to take a look at Dahntay Jones. Athletic player who plays D.

Yeah, I like the idea of bringing Von Wafer. I always liked him as an athletic guy who can create his own shot, though I only really remember him in HOU.
Looking over his stats, he put up some decent overall numbers last season, though it was on that terrible ORL team.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Mason end up on the final roster. Decent defender who can shoot the ball. I get the feeling Riley/Spoelstra are also looking to see how guys will mesh in the locker room, minutes, etc. Mason's one of those guys who is universally respected around the league.

Oden and Beasley are both on a mission to prove they belong in the league....KD called out Dwyane Wade....Chris Bosh has been hearing he's expendable for the better part of the last 2 seasons....everyone still seems to think Spoelstra is a puppet....people STILL aren't giving LeBron the respect he deserves.....WE ARE ABOUT TO TAKE IT OUT ON THE ENTIRE LEAGUE!!!!! I'M AMPED FOR THE SEASON TO START!!!!

There are two things that could prevent us from repeating:
1) Mental fatigue
2) injuries
The league made sure the first one is gone and as a result, the second one is unlikely to happen.

And on top of all of that, this only makes our group grow closer and if we win another chip, the chances of the Big Three breaking up are zero.

Re: Official Off-Season Trade/Rumor Thread 2.0
Look, four year Finals runs are hard. Hasn't happened since the 80s for a reason. I do think, though, it's worth noting that unlike last offseason, our best player got a chance to relax this offseason. Yes, the supporting cast needs to show up too, but we only go as far as he takes us. I'm not saying this year will be easier for him, but I'm sure he feels fresher than at the start of last season.
With Wade, usually that first season right after knee surgery is a bit of a grind. I think being a year removed, and getting the OssaTron (had his best season ever after getting it the first times), and going back to training with Grover could have him more explosive than last season. Sustained health is completely unpredictable, though.
Bosh didn't have an injury to rehab this season, for whatever that's worth.
I think some people are making too big of a deal out of two extra weeks of basketball. That can be made up by going light on the vets during camp/preseason and the maintenance program at the end of the season. Three-peating is just hard because it's hard to win A championship.
This is one of the things that gives me pause about Wafer. He's been accompanied by character concerns throughout his career. I think that's one of the reasons he's been such a journeyman, playing overseas last year. He seems a bit self-involved, though it's quite possible age has amended that. Good thing is the Heat have had him around the facilities for a little while now, and if he's invited to camp they'll have a good amount of time to see how he vibes with the real roster. Say what you will about Beasley, but he's still an affable, gregarious personality. I don't necessarily get that feeling about Wafer.

Lebron just won the MVP by the biggest margin of all time. Literally all but one of the first place votes. He is universally regarded as by far the best player in the league.
No one thinks Spo is a puppet.
Even the biggest Bosh critics were saying to trade him not that he is expendable.
KD didn't really call out Wade.
And plenty of players have been on a mission and failed.
We have the best talent in the league. Lets not turn into Bull fans in the 90s and make up all these intangibles and motivational reasons for why we win. We win because we are better at playing basketball not because we are hungrier or want it more or have something to prove or whatever else you want to throw in.

Gotta be the leanest Wade's looked precamp in awhile.
For comparison's sake, here's how he looked after working with Grover in '08

And here's a pic from recent years (lockout, maybe?)

Pretty clear how seriously he's taken his body this offseason.

Looks like Mike's back hanging with his big brother again. Definitely a good sign.
