Well he was the clutchest player on the team last year this shouldn't be a shock to anyone. Now saying it publicly that he will give him the ball during the last seconds could just be to throw off teams because just about any player on the starting 5 can make a final shot

He's just stating the obvious he's money in the clutch.

Based on stats, JJ was the most clutch player last year.

However, it would be foolish to believe that we'd just give it to him and let him ISO while everyone stands around.

I bet we'll be running a lot of misdirection and screens to free up D-Will and Pierce for open shots.

Some guy broke down the numbers:
NBA Numbers Crunch: Who’s the Real Go-to-Guy for the Brooklyn Nets?

Crunching the clutch numbers should do the trick. Here are the late-game stats for the core of Brooklyn.

*Defined as "4th quarter or OT, less than five minutes left, neither team ahead by 5 points.

Brook Lopez - 28.6 PPG (44.2% on 21.6 FGA)
Paul Pierce - 25.3 PPG (34.3% on 23.1 FGA)
Deron Williams - 25.1 PPG (27.3% on 16.7 FGA)
Kevin Garnett - 24.6 PPG (41.2%on 21.8 FGA)
Joe Johnson - 23.1 PPG (40.0% on 17.6 FGA)
Jason Terry - 17.1 PPG (34.8% on 13.8 FGA

i think it's pathetic if it's still Johnson you'll have as first option, i think that shold go to .

JJ's fine for the last shot. The more important thing to note is in the closing minutes, the Nets have options.

between him and Pierce though... i think Pierce knows more when to pass the ball or not (assuming of course, there's still time...) so i think Pierce should be the go to guy in the waning moments..

Last shot time is a tough though as you've said you have lots of options...

Yeah, Kidd is talking about the last shot. Joe was great at late game shots to win or tie the game.

No one is suggesting that he'd be the #1 option for all of the last 5 minutes of a close game.

Pierce is one of the best at making the clutch pass that will lead to the game winner, and the stats prove this out. Him and KG have a great chemistry in that regard already, and it won't be long until the entire closing unit is working together on all cylinders where everyone is a threat to make the right passes and take the right shots/drives.

With JJ's length and smooth jumper, I have no problem with him taking the the last shot if it comes down to an iso at the end of a game. But also keep in mind, Brooklyn will have the luxury of giving the ball to the guy that is not being guarded by the other team's stopper between JJ and PP in end-of-game situations, which is a great option to have. Pierce can still get that step-back off pretty much whenever he wants, and to have a guy that is never afraid to take the shot and has been there countless times before is a huge luxury.

Maybe we can start only playing Joe for the last shot of the game?

Joe's already overpaid making 21 million next year but that's gas money for Proky.
As long as they win but a broke mofo like me can't help but count his money.
Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Carmelo Anthony, Amare Stoudemire *double take 21 million for some nice suits.
Gilbert Arenas gets 22 million and doesn't even play.

Coming from a Knicks fan, JJ is one of the clutchest if not THE clutchest player in the league.

regular season yeah... what about in a playoff game? i would not hesitate to choose Pierce over Joe Johnson. it would also depend on who they are being guarded by.

We also have Terry who still clutch, a line up of D will, Terry, Johnson, Pierce, and KG to take a last shot would be a killer.

Eff that. Whoever has the easiest matchup. Pierce and Joe are both capable of draining game winners with hands on their faces. I'd say Lopez is the 3rd option in those situations with Deron being 4th (he was really bad last year in the closing minutes of games).
