I can't disagree Stun but as long as he's getting legitimite center mass I can't complain.
That said his cardio won't help much if he's only got the skills to play 12mpg.

Agreed. I'd be thrilled if he posted stuff on his twitter of him actually working on his craft. Instead he's doing cardio. He's a great guy, but his basketball IQ is terrible, and he's got a loooooong way to go in general.

Agreed but at the same time, getting in great shape should make it easier for development in his game as well.

Re: The Brickhands Biyombo Thread 2.0
Perhaps Biz is changing his role with getting in great shape.
It's pretty clear that he's far from being a starter, especially one that must be relied on for heavy minutes and heavy points.
So maybe since he's getting in great shape, he'll be a highly athletic, highly energetic role player that comes in, makes some key defensive plays, and a few *cough* big fouls *cough*

You guys are going to get mad when Clifford (defense oriented coach) has Biz starting at PF and Al the C. If Cliffy is anything like his mentor JVG, he won't be afraid to sacrifice some offense in the name of defense.

Big difference between sacrificing some offense and playing 4v5 on offense.

Last option is the last option. Biz fits the profile of dirty work PFs like Kurt Thomas, Charles Oakley and Chuck Hayes a lot more than anybody on our roster. Those guys commonly played PF next to offensive go-to C's Ewing and Yao Ming while Clifford was an assistant. If Al can't guard his shadow and Zeller gets the deer in the headlights look, don't be surprised if Biz starts.

If Zellers struggling I have no problem with that.
Edit: I can see Biyombo/Zeller being out front court of the future after Jefferson leaves in a couple years anyway. I just wish Biyombo had a better basketball IQ. He may get it this season or next. He may not. Time will tell.

biyombo sounds like a new man. sounds like the clarity of his role under clifford is maybe settling him down a little bit.

With Jefferson there, he doesn't even need to learn to catch a ball, just needs it to hit his hand and go somewhere else when an opponent shoots it.

Its going to do wonders for him to actually just sit down watch and learn for a season or two along with getting a decent amount of minutes in there as well.

Defending against Jefferson every day in practice is surely going to help.
Following around Ewing will surely help him grow into a much better player.

yeah, jefferson was one of the guys who really schooled him last year. Made him look like a bad 1 on 1 defender in the post.

I think that athletic bigs don't seem to bother Biz but guys who have legit fundamentals and post moves like Jefferson give him fits. They do make him look like a bad man defender.
I think what Biz does against Jefferson in practice will determine his role on our team.
He is the only rim protector on our roster so on paper should at least be assured of rotation minutes despite our deep frontcourt but if he can work Jefferson in practice I'd bet he starts.
It raises the question, will Biz have to earn his spot over Zeller and McBobcat or will Zeller and McBobcat have to earn it over Biz? Obviously at PF.
If we started him at the 4 and had him backing up the 5 for around 30 minutes a game would that effect Zellers Development?
Saying Zeller got 26-28mpg off the bench?

Hmmm...there are so many rangy, athletic 4's in the league. Do you think Biz has the lateral quicks and responsiveness to guard the 4? He has the physical tools and I would love to see him be able to guard both the 4/5, but can't say I'm confident that he can. Zeller seems to be a better fit defensively for more mobile stretch 4's.

I think there would be no physical limitations with Biyombo in terms of playing the four.
My thinking is that we need Biyombo to develop the skillset to defend 4's and 5's capably to fulfill his potential as an undersized 5.
He needs to be more than a one trick pony and we need to give him the chance to do that.
While I'm a believer that you do learn sitting and watching he needs the minutes to develop and I'm not sure he'll get that playing the backup 5.
That said he does need to earn it.
