Meh signing. Already stacked at the wing positions.

I would have hoped for another project-like big like Hassan Whiteside or something. This is what Miami's training camp looks like as it pertains to perimeter players...

PG: Mario Chalmers - Norris Cole - Larry Drew II
SG: Ray Allen - Roger Mason, Jr.
SF: Shane Battier - Michael Beasley - James Jones
Honorable Mention: Udonis Haslem - Rashard Lewis - Justin Hamilton

Everyone else, most likely, will be found at the rim either scoring, defending or getting rebounds, and that concerns me. But I trust Pat Riley.

This move makes more sense than people are giving credit... and it's not even a certain thing. For an upper tier 3 pt shooting sg at the minimum who's ok with DNPs and little playing time, while being a respected well-liked guy in the locker room, those are the qualifications for the couple spots left on this team.

With Miller, who was a taller better rebounding version but frailer and less of a defender, gone we need a sg who can step into that occasional 18 minutes per game role (a role that Mike himself wasn't too happy with)... I don't trust JJ in that role at all as he gets unfairly schooled on D and is so slow he can't even dribble on O. Mason Jr is a more realistic and affordable filler into whatever that role was that Miller filled. Also as Leif pointed out, unlike Miller, JJ, Rashard, Mason Jr could potentially fit in at either at the guard spots and even the 3 in our offense.

I think this signing would be a good fit.

Roster stands at 19 people at the moment, will be interesting who makes the cut and who doesn't. It still amazes me that team has gotten better every year since Big 3.

Mason's averaged exactly .400 FG3 over the last two seasons, on 2.5 three-point attempts per game, while playing for the struggling Wizards and Hornets.

Now he gets to shoot with LeBron, Wade, Bosh, etc., drawing the defense... Riley understands.

That's the most likely roster. Maybe Anthony gets traded and Varnado is signed at some point.

Oh? Who is our starter when Wade misses games? (Remember, Spo won't start Ray)

I remember Mason playing with the Heat's summer league back in his rookie year. He was a PG out of college. Since, he's been used more as combo guard. Honestly, I have not watched him much over the last couple of seasons but I do know that he was one of the best 3pt shooters a couple of years ago for a period of time.

It wouldn't surprise me if he makes the final roster. I would like to see more of him in preseason to make a more accurate prediction on how he could help us though.
