Juwan now an assistant coach; Also Ellisburg now GM

Post#1 » by Langdon Alger » Sat Sep 28, 2013 11:30 pm

It was inevitable, Juwan Howard has become an assistant coach for the Heat. Man, for all the people that talk smack about the Heat, the Heat are damn loyal to their own people. Also, Andy Ellisburg is now GM, which was inevitable since he's been with the Heat since forever. Also Tim Hardaway got a new role with the team.

Like that Howard is still with the team and there to provide that leadership to the young ones in Beasley and Oden.

From the outside all these moves look good, establishing the family/loyalty atmosphere in the organization with long time Heatels that are smart successful professionals. We're in good hands.

PS - Just looks at those miserable Knicks : all that money, huge market, but failing for years and just fired another GM at the end of Summer after he made his big move ( which was also miserable - Bargnani).

Appreciate what we have here with Micky and Pat.

Not surprising the Don's longtime consigliere has been promoted to GM. This was Riley after clinching Game 7 against the Spurs...

Classy move by Riley after Game 7: When asked about putting together this team, he said “I didn’t,” then credited five of his basketball people – “they smack me in the face all the time when I start to do something stupid” – and called over senior vice president Andy Elisburg: “This man here is the one that keeps me together," Riley said. "I mean it. I get to sit there and do nothing. He’s on his computer all the time.”

Thanks for posting that article, Mars. I know it is quite old, but there were a lot of tidbits in there that I wasn't aware of...like this one

Magic Johnson, walking out of AmericanAirlines Arena Friday morning, said: “LeBron is top 10 and moving up fast, and he can surpass Michael as the greatest who ever played. He’s the best defender, smartest player in the game. And he [plays for] the greatest organization in the world.

If he's saying what I think he's saying, how cool is that??

I also liked Mr. Sourpuss Charles Barkley calling for the Heat to break up the team and for LeBron to leave in order to lengthen his career

Ellisburg deserves a statue if he finds a way for us to re-sign the big 3...

Well, I'm pretty sure Riley will be around for the next couple of years. No way Arison lets him leave during the Lebron era, atleast before resigning him long term. Pat will definitely be getting a statue.

I don't think Riley would want to leave during the Lebron era (unless it lasts for like a decade). I could see Riley leaving shortly after Lebron if Lebron leaves (which I don't think will happen)

It goes almost unnoticed how Spoelstra is surrounding himself with "his" people. David Fizdale, Dan Craig and Juwan Howard. The only Riley disciples left on the bench are McAdoo and Rothstein. Out are Askins, Kammerer and De La Graña who have scouting duties with the organization now.

I didn't think of it that way - but you're right.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'm praying that he, coupled with Zo and our training staff, will find a way to maximize Greg Oden's utility.

more importantly Dan Craig is a new assistant coach. One of the hottest young coaching prospects in the league and we have him locked up on our bench. He coached the SL team this year and was vid coord last year. Smart guy knows Bball and should be a great voice on the bench.

here is an article of him talking about Cole development

1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington

Wouldn't have been the same to have a playoff run without Juwan on the sidelines. Am glad he's part of the organization going forward

This may come as a surprise to most but I think that eventually Spo could do what Riley did for us early on as a coach/person who makes the ultimate call on basketball decisions. He will have a ton of help with his staff and the stability of the Arison family and Andy crunching numbers. He will have Riley as a consultant (probably Coach K too with the Arison connection) His background with scouting talent and also his ability to relate to players makes him a good/smart recruiter. He is getting cosigned by pretty much anybody who holds weight in basketball. I think Arison, Spoelstra, Ellisberg, Craig is the next MArison, Riley, Ellisberg, Spoelstra 4some in the FO leadership roles long term. barring something really unforeseen.

The immaculate Heat led by Emperor Riley & Co should never be uttered within the same sentence as the scrappy Knicks. A team with only 2 titles yet has been around since the inception of the NBA. The Miami Heat winning 3 titles surpassing the Knicks all time mark of two in 1/ 3 of the years while being part of the NBA. For a young team led by one of the greatest management teams ever assembled this is a awesome feat achieved. This organization cares about winning and does in its power to do so. Their is a reason Pat Riley skipped town when it came to New York. Its a different culture, one that values hard work over hype. And the Heat reward excellence not glorying incompetence seen in New York with the slew of bad move after bad move accumulated over the years with no regard for nothing intangible in terms of improving the team.

Putting concrete over feces is still feces. If you looked up Sustained Arrogance it would come up with the Knicks.
If you look up professional and classy you get the Heat. This is reality.
People call it cocky, I know it as confidence.
