Bucs Cut Freeman; Are Hilarious

Post#1 » by Da Schwab » Thu Oct 3, 2013 6:33 pm

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released quarterback Josh Freeman on Thursday, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The team tried to trade the quarterback but wasn't able to find a taker. By releasing Freeman, the Buccaneers are obligated to pay the quarterback all $6.2 million he was owed in remaining salary this season.

Freeman, who was taken 17th overall by the Buccaneers in the 2009 draft, was benched in favor of rookie Mike Glennon prior to the Bucs' 13-10 loss to Arizona this past Sunday. In 60 career games, Freeman has thrown for 13,534 yards, 80 touchdowns and 66 interceptions.

The NFL Players Association is investigating how Freeman's presence in Stage 1 of the league's substance-abuse program became public earlier this week. On Tuesday, Bucs coach Greg Schiano was asked by reporters if he was the source of the information and said, "absolutely not."

Freeman was fined twice in the past month for conduct detrimental to the team, according to an SI.com report. The website reported he will appeal the fines.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised no one wanted to take on his contract, but it's still LOL-worthy for me.

The Giraffe era is now officially upon us.

I guess I'll just ask now. Who picks him up?

My money is on Arizona.

If not Arizona, I could see him backing up Rodgers in Green Bay.

I hope my Raiders avoid him completely.

The Bills and Browns could use Freeman, especially Buffalo. Their backup is horrendous.

They wouldn't go after him. Freeman would be #3 on our QB depth chart.

LOL wut?

Looks like the Bills will be the one to pull the trigger on him since EJ Manuel is now out for a few weeks.

I thought the guy was good. I mean, he looked good to me. But yes, the Raiders should jump on this opportunity right away

Well, Freeman would certainly be behind Pryor. And I would have McGloin ahead of him as well.

Freeman doesn't do much for me. And Pryor is certainly a better player going forward.

EDIT: Not sure why I liked the word "certainly" so much this post.

Freeman is a mystery.

The guy is bright and articulate.

He has a big arm .... but locating throws is an ongoing issue.

He's played on a team without a quality o-line for most of his tenure.

Freeman's attitude has waned and had lost much respect amongst his peers.

A new start for him could be a big gain. A team picking him up has nothing to lose at this point.

Something needed to change. Hope he's solid because that's all he really needs to be.

Did any QB fall off harder and faster than Freeman? Dude was a beast his rookie year in 2010, three years later he gets cut midseason.

Not sure how he'll do in Minnesota. In Tampa he had a lot more talent around him. He's got Peterson now, but not much else. But it's worth a shot if you're the Vikes I guess.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

I don't really think that's true.

Yeah I don't get that either. How did the Bucs have "a lot more talent"?

The only season he had a legit number 1 receiver was last year (and i guess if you're counting the few games this year too) in Vincent Jackson. Their running backs have been average at best (before Doug Martin), they keep trying washed up TEs. I just don't see it. Maybe if hes arguing defensively? But even then its not like the difference is clear there either since the Vikings have a great pass rusher, and some decent LBs and Tampa doesn't have anything noticeably better.
Again if its strictly offense, I'd take Peterson, Greg Jennings, Kyle Rudolph over Muscle Hamster, Vincent Jackson and (insert name here) TE.

The Bucs don't have more talent. I actually like freeman in Min better than in TB. Give him some time and he should be half way decent for them. Anything is better than Ponder
