Defensive backup, hopefully another player to play tough against LeBron James if us and them make it back to the finals:

He's a rugged, utility player who ain't afraid to get down and dirty.

Hope to see him make life harder to guys like Lebron and KD.

Sam Young is one of the worst players I have ever seen. He literally provides nothing of value.

We just signed Corey Maggette to a camp deal also. He didn't show anything at all in Detroit last year. Maybe the competition to make the team might drive some of these guys. Lack of effort or poor attitude I'm not worried about because Pop won't put up with crap for long. See:Stephen Jackson

We don't have a backup at the 3, behind Kawhi, so I get why they're bringing in these players. I don't see these guys as the answer but we need someone.

After the maggette announcement I really hope that we go with him and we don't go with Sam Young.

I'd probably prefer bringing TMac out of retirement.

I think Cory Joseph will see the most PT at the backup PG spot. I don't think we'll much of Mills or de Colo, except in garbage time or if TP or Joseph go down with injury.

Looks like they are going to limit Tony Parker big time early this season. I expect through exhibition and the first month of the season we will see a ton of experiments at PG with everyone getting alot of minutes. I liked Joseph's aggressiveness in the playoffs and i hope he continues to improve.

Maggette? Meh....... Maybe if we get the Maggette of 2 or 3 years ago but the one I saw in Detroit last year was useless.

Agree, but I really hope this is the season Mills crack the rotation.

I'm really not a fan of Cory Joseph. Everything he does is just decent. Which makes him solid, but unspectacular. His best attribute, energy on the defensive end, is decent. It's not like he's Avery Bradley out there.

Patty Mills, everytime he gets floor time, it seems that he's always scoring. With Manu becoming more and more as a playmaker, I thought Mills' aggresiveness on the offensive end fits better with Manu. And it's not like Patty gets torn apart by opposing backup PG on the defensive end. The guy is sort of like a bulldog at times. I'm not really sure why Patty can't crack the PG rotation really. When TJ Ford went down a few years back, Patty was really good. Since then, he's in the doghouse. Our backup PG rotation is bad enough and no one really played good enough to claim that spot.

I really don't like Joseph or Mills. Neither are legit backup PGs to me.

Joseph is a good back up who has been brought along slowly. No problem with him. He'll be taking the back up 1 minutes this year.

Spurs Release Sam Young
Oct 10, 2013 3:21 PM EDT

The San Antonio Spurs have waived forward Sam Young.

In San Antonio’s preseason game versus CSKA Moscow Wednesday night, Young recorded 4 rebounds and 1 steal in 18 minutes. Young originally signed with the Spurs on Sept. 30.

San Antonio’s roster now stands at 19 players.

geez. I'd never want to try out for anything under Pop.

Well that was quick. I guess Maggette is our backup SF.

Don't be surprised if Maggette is waived too. Sometimes it's best not to fill the 15th spot until later in the year.

Ya I wouldn't be surprised if that happens either but we'll see I guess. I can also see us waiving Mills instead of Maggette.

Not really surprised considering that Young does absolutely nothing well, offensively and defensively.

I don't see SA waiving Mills simply because he has a guaranteed contract. He could ask for a trade to get more minutes in some other team, but I don't see SA waiving him at all.
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

No way Spurs waive Mills. There's no reason to. He's not even playing the worst basketball in the preseason among the guys with guaranteed contracts.

If there is a candidate to get waived among those guys, it's without a doubt Nando De Colo.

I remember when we're comparing him to Mini-Manu last year. Time to get realistic. Pop learned to allow "young" Manu play because he did a whole lot of other stuffs. Nando forces passes like Manu does, but doesn't do anything else to offset those stupid plays.

Doesn't play a good enough defense. Takes too much risky plays. Scouting reports was that he's a shooter and he has yet to show that he's a good shooter. Can't finish at the basket. Big for his position but doesn't have the quickness or athleticism.

Nando is the fourth string SG behind Manu, Green, and Marco.
Nando is the fourth string PG behind Parker, Joseph, and Mills.

Looks pretty clear Corey is getting cut. Pop was almost wincing when he mentioned him, using the same platitudes he'd used the night before almost word for word. I wonder if they've already told him.
