Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

Nothing, but I think he'll be terrific.

Basically, the season would be a total loss for him. Sticking with that. This is the Wizards. Whatever the worst-case scenario with Okafor is, things will play out at or near that.

And they'll miss him. A lot.

One thing the Wizards have done much better in the John Wall era is to avoid this kind of issue. Their medical staff has been very conservative about allowing recovering players to play. Of course, that may only have been with young guys. They didn't seem that concerned with Nene playing on a bad foot.

What - you don't believe that at 23 years old, he grew 2 inches over the summer? Such skepticism!

Whoa! Ted looks like a spiegel from LOTR. The weight gain, coupled with the ears and the devilish goatee...I'm not a fan.

You made no prediction on Wall's return from injury last year ?

Could Ves still be growing ?

They have clearly been doing things differently. I think with Nene they did approach it differently like you said. Some combination of him being a vet, the type of injury it was, and how badly they needed him out there so they team could start to gel and move forward. Plus Nene was the one that decided not the rest long enough last summer. Dude was getting paid a lot of money to play. I think there was a lot that factored into that. I also think Nene learned his lesson which is why he rested so much this summer.

With Wall, he is young, franchise future, stress fracture issue. Its was different. That was more like a D Rose thing. Let him rest as long as needed then add some time to be extra sure.

But overall, they seem to have a different approach and Randy is either on board or part of dictating it. He seems to want the player to get healed up before he gets them back.

In rebuilding, they did take chances on injured players they felt had upside. Over time they need to transition into player that stay healthier and have talent. Okafor, Nene, Webster and even AH to some degree, they are all player that had injury histories. But hey, how many NBA player haven't ? Its a matter of degree and is it chronic or not. Otto seems to be a little fragile so far but it's to early to say that's a long term problem. He needs to get stronger.

Webster appears to be over his issues. Okafor's injury seemed more a freak thing even though he did have other bad issues. Nene seems like he needs his knees scoped and cleaned up next summer. He clearly has miles on his body. Trevor A seems to have a lingering knee issue. Booker has been trying to address his knee issue. Did the plasma and everything. Now we have to see if all that worked and he can stay healthy.

I always felt team injuries can reach a tipping point. If you have enough good players, you can play them less minutes and rest them when they are dinged. But once you reach a tipping point, players have to play when they aren't ready and then things snowball.

But I feel Wall and Beal should be past their injury problems. That alone is going to help a ton since he is a core piece. Feels like unless something freak happens, both he and Wall could play 78 games together this year. Kevin had one injury to his leg just before camp last year but he recovered and stayed healthy. Kevin seems to be built strong and pretty resistant to injury.

Overall, the team does need to focus on strength, flexibility, warming up properly, etc. If I'm honest, they still seem a little fragile as a team when you look at them player by player. They need to transition over time to players that stay healthy like I predict Wall, Beal and Kevin will. I will add Webster to that group. He learned to be really proactive about his body and give the minutes and role he will play, I think he can stay healthy. That is clearly an area the individual players can improve on and hopefully Webster can help teach them.

So Wall, Beal, Webster, Okafor and looking like Kevin seem to all get it. I think Booker was over training so he gets it but needed to gain wisdom. Maynor probably fits in that camp as well. Glen seems strong. Temple seems like he takes care of himself. But its about core players as much as anything.

And most of that is about Nene and Okafor which at their ages clearly will get replaced over time so that will help. They just have to find healthy player to replace them with.
