Matt Harvey to Have Tommy John Surgery; Will Miss 2014

Apparently the rest and rehab approach didn't work. Mets right-hander Matt Harvey will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the partially torn ligament in his right elbow, the team announced.

More to come.

Looks like this will set the Mets back a year. Really unfortunate to see this kid lose a whole year of his career like Strasburg and Beachy did.

That was kind of expected though.

And really, it's most likely the best move for Harvey long-term anyway.

Tommy John lays claim to another NL East victim. This really sucks for Harvey and for all of Baseball next year

Sucks for the Mets and Harvey, but TJ surgery is no longer a death knell. He'll be back and just as good if not better than ever in 2014. The Mets weren't going to win anything next year anyway.

Huge blow for the Mets. I like Harvey and the way he pitches. Hoping the Tommy John can bring him back to being a CY young contender
