Johnson's agent mentioned a $10M base salary over one year in one of the articles I read, and I think some team will give it to him.

If the options are 1/10 for Johnson or 5/75 (or more) for Garza, it makes a lot more fiscal sense to go with Johnson as it is less burden on a team's long-term payroll, and it's a buy low move (i.e. JJ can only get better, if healthy).

if he can't pitch inside anymore, be it mental or physical - then he isn't worth half that and he may be an NL pitcher at best

further if there is not anyone better than JJ for 10 million - then baseball has a huge problem on its hands

I think it's foolish not to give him a 1 year deal. People forget how dominant he was in 2012 and prior. Getting a guy who has a legitimate shot to post an ERA under 4 and pitch over 150 innings in 2014 is easily worth 6M + incentives.

If he blows again, we end up giving him 6M, if he pitches over 150 innings he gets 8M if he makes AS team he gets 12M. Easy.

The guys been injured all year and somebody will give him a shot. I'd rather it be the Blue Jays.

I think the issue is if the Jays don't offer the QO then he's as good as gone. Whatever they offer him as a FA will be matched or very close to by another team outside the AL East. Realistically, the question is - do you want him at $14-$15 million because that's what he'll likely cost you.

his value is so low, but u absolutely need starters with good stuff to compete for playoffs and need them even more in the playoffs...and JJ still can produce 2nd-3rd arm in rotation stuff...if its for a fair number for 1 season, u gotta give potential like JJ one more shot
