Re: Future Bears QB if Cutler Fails Thread
Top 3 QBRs (out of100) in the second half:
98 - Manning
92.8 - Cutler
82 - Rivers
That's incredibly impressive by Jay. I say we establish the run in the first half, work in some play action, control the ball and keep the Saints off the field. Then unleash Jay in the second half.

Like it or not, if Jay leaves you either lose Marsh, have an unhappy Marsh, or a slim chance nothing actually happens.

Those are like the only three options

Re: Future Bears QB if Cutler Fails Thread
Idk if he's coming out this season but I really like Bryce Petty.
Also Kieth Price. Russell wilson type player. He was really good his first season going toe to toe with RG3 in the bowl game they played. Fell off last year but is starting to play at a high level again. His performance against Stanford will say a lot about him
Same with Logan Thomas. Russell wilson type. good first season. struggled last season. playing well again this season.

Just my $.02, but this thread is waaaaaayyyy premature. It's almost like it was made in hopes of Cutler failing
.
Especially with it being made the day before he made his first pass of the regular season.

I disagree, it was just a thread for a QB watch, no matter if we keep Jay or not I predict we'll draft a QB somewhere next year.

Re: Future Bears QB if Cutler Fails Thread
Honestly, wouldn't be a terrible thing to draft a QB around round 2-4.
Wouldn't hurt to have a young guy with some actual promise on the roster. Couldn't hurt to have a guy to develop, to be a better backup then what we have now and to give Cutler some competition if anything.

Good point. but we did do that and jason campbell and it didnt really pay dividends. Either way we have to be better there (backup qb) than josh mccown. We may need an nfl-er back there. Yea i want that guy to an extent but dont want to have to allocate too many resources to get it , would rather use it on other parts of the team.

Campbell wasn't a young guy and only signed a 1 year contract.

Re: Future Bears QB if Cutler Fails Thread
Not thread worthy but I'll put here since it would help prevent Cutler from failing. Its just an idea but how about trading for Tony Gonzalez. I got the idea from Adam Schefter saying the Falcons might trade him since he has a lot of value and he said he'll retire after this season. I know a lot will say we don't need him because we have Bennett but there are a lot of teams who have had a lot of success with the two TE formula. Obviously we don't give up a significant amount of assets so the problem would be figuring out the value of an elite player who is retiring after the season. I'd consider a 4th since we'd be considered one of the top favorites to reach the superbowl.

Not sure how adding a TE would improve our chances that much with our defense playing the way it is.

Re: Future Bears QB if Cutler Fails Thread
Bears are going to have to draft a developmental QB. There don't appear to be any good QB's forcing themselves out of town a la Cutler did, so that won't work. Unless you want to take a flier on Josh Freeman, assuming he becomes a free agent. Traditionally, picking up other team's backups that have a flash in the pan moment usually ends up poorly. (Think Cassel, Matt Flynn, etc.). Bears need to do some sweet ass scouting this year and find a diamond in the rough in the later rounds. Pay Cutler what he's worth (or at least franchise him) and develop someone under him. Cutler's going to get paid no matter what, so he shouldn't be too worried about being franchised. Even if you don't franchise him, you can probably get rid of Peppers, assuming he doesn't have a huge renaissance and that will free up a ton of cap room.

This is exactly what I mean. Don't settle for some veteran who was a career backup or an undrafted rookie to fill in the backup slots. Scout and get someone with actual promise.
I think he's having a good year so far, but Cutler literally can't be benched. There is no one out there that can do half of what Cutler does even when he's not at his best. Maybe if our defense wasn't playing so horribly we could settle on a game manager, but we can't.

I have no problem drafting another QB in the middle to late rounds.
The thread title (Cutler Fails Thread) suggests differently than what you're now saying, though.
Jay Cutler has the 5th best QB rating in the NFL. For him to be in a brand new system (3rd in 4 years), I think that he's doing an exceptional job for us.

Re: Future Bears QB if Cutler Fails Thread
^^^^^^^^It doesn't matter. The word "fail" introduced criticism of Jay into the discussion when it was not justified, considering he had yet to throw a regular season pass in the Trestman era.
You just stated that we should draft a QB next season regardless, like most of the board did on previous pages.
