Kobe

Post#1 » by MisterHibachi » Tue Oct 8, 2013 8:26 pm

Similar to that Magic thread, where would a prime Kobe rank in today's league? Comfortably second? Fighting for second with Durant?

EDIT: If team results factor into it, then assume he replaces current Kobe on the current Lakers.

Well if you assume prime Kobe played with last years roster, then Dwight Resigns there, and everything is changed. They make the WCF or 2nd Round.

Comfortably second.

Would Dwight really resign? Wasn't his problem that Kobe shoots too much and he wanted to be the man? Dwight would never be the franchise player with prime Kobe on his team, so I think he still leaves.

Somewhere between 2-4; if I were pressed into picking one number I'll say 3rd.

Yeah, definitely second behind LeBron.

By prime I'm assuming you mean '06 onward?

Seriously doubt it. LeBron's last two seasons have been all-time seasons and I don't think a prime Kobe would have been able to be better than that (especially 2013 RS).

He would be tied with KD for 2nd best player and at the very worst 3rd best player.

Dwight would resign because he would be a title contender. Dwight didn't resign because with a dinosaur-esque Kobe and a not so bright future for the Lakers, there was little to no way he would win a title there. He went to Houston because they have a 24 year old star, one of the best role players in the league, and Hakeem.
I would take a prime Kobe over that any day of the week, as good as that looks.

Probably be the 3rd best player in the league at worst.
Not sure who else besides LBJ or Durant could possibly challenge him. Maybe CP3 or a healthy motivated Dwight?

2nd or 3rd. I feel like ive been underrating Kd but the beginning of the season for Okc w/o Westbrook should shine more light

Unless Kobe was putting up literally his 35ppg season I don't think he'd be in serious consideration for the top 2. LeBron and Durant were just too dominant last season. He'd be comfortably 3rd though.

Durant is only statistically better than Kobe. The jury is still out if he is actually better than a prime Kobe who IMO edges Durant out a little as the second best I'm the league. Like I hate the guy and all but the dudes a proven legend still. Kd nothing to scoff at either, RS worse and again stats wise he peaked higher the. Kobe ever did last year, we just need to see more to put him ahead of the the second greats sg of all time

He would be the 2nd Best, but he would be in the convo for the best.

Easily best scorer and people forget how in awe we were, he'd give Lebron competition.
:o LeBron is 0-7 in game winning/tying FGs in the finals. And is 20/116 or 17% in game winning/tying FGs in the 4th/OT for his career. That's historically bad :o
