Wall and Nene should not be in. I understand why beal/Jan are there but Nene just doesn't seem interested in D to me.

He shouldn't be. Bigs aren't going to get physical in preseason very often, especially vets.

The two teams combined for 68 fouls.

Yeah it was a hack-a-thon. Nene and Wall don't need to get exposed to that. On the bright side, Nene seemed quite a bit better offensively. Lets just hope he'll flip the defensive switch to "on" once the RS starts.

**BTW, mildly amusing, Brook Lopez did not register a rebound :I

Just got back from the game. Its "only preseason", but a couple of observations:

1. We are really going to miss Okafor a lot. The Wiz sorely missed his ability to protect the rim, and the Nets got a lot of easy lay-ups. There really was no help defense. I also think we are going to really miss his rebounding and picks.
2. Seraphin and Vesely look, well, a lot like last year. Vesely had a nice night rebounding, but was still a foul machine and non-check on offense. Seraphin hit some of his jump hooks, but still got beat on the boards, was out of position a lot, and looked lost at times. If people expect these two to pick up the slack from missing Okafor, I think they will be disappointed
3. Maynor sucked tonight. Pounded the rock too much, shot poorly and was a sieve on defense. I'm still willing to give him a chance, but it was not encouraging. At least Price played pretty good D.
4. Beal came out hot, but cooled off considerably. It does look like he grew an inch, as reported, and he's bulked up a bit. Not too worried about him.
5. Wall was ok. Had way too many turnovers and was sloppy with the ball. Hit some outside shots and made some nifty moves, but could have been better. Not too worried about him either.
6. Ariza and Webster looked to be coasting
7. Nene looked a little more spry but did not play very good D. He had a quiet 19 points.
8 Rice Jr played decently...missed some 3 pointers badly, but played nice D, hustled and hit some important shots.
9 Harrington was off with his shots, but got rolling a bit in the second half.
10. Biggest disappointment was that the Nets played their scrubs the whole second half and even though Witt gave our starters significant minutes, they could not make a run against the Net's scrubs.
11. Blatche had some nice plays and some really bad ones. He looks like he has added weight back on...doesn't look like he worked out all summer.

Hopefully Otto gets healthy quick. We need to move Martell to the starting lineup and the trade Ariza for some more front court help. I also want to see more Glen Rice...he's the only guy on the roster amongst the backups capable of being an insta offense type.

Gortat and a Otto protected 1 for Ariza?

Nene was a beast. Wall got to the line. So did Webster.

Trevor A and Beal had rough games. Walls was ok. Not good. Not bad.

Good to see Glen get his feet wet. Sweet follow up dunk to go into OT.

Kevins game was meh.. mixed bag. 7 rebounds in 33 minute still isn't enough. and 4 TO is to much.

Maynor.. let hope he can do better then that. Never watched him much by when I saw some videos, he didn't look that athletic. He will probably do better one the offense finds some order. He isn't going to bet you one one one like Wall nor is he a lead scoring option.

Brooklyn should be very interesting this year. KG really helps a team. Thats for sure. And adding AK47 and PP. They are deep. They really loaded up.

Personally I expected a blow out in the 2nd half which is why I didn't both tuning in. Was surprised to see them so close down the street. But it was a glorified practice. BK is the better team. Thats pretty clear. They should finish 1 or 2 in the conference.

I don't know why you expected a blow out in the 2nd half. Nets did not play their starters at all in the second half.

Then again, you expect something before it happens, so he couldn't have known yet that they wouldn't play their starters.

Disappointed he didn't attempt more shot but pleased with the rebounding. Better than last yr, still not good enough. Lets see what happens throughout the preseason.

Relax Jiv

Its the first preseason game. No one is making any trades based on a vet who has produced doing bad in the first one. I'm sure Trevor A will play better. Beside, he was only 0-2. Not like he was jacking up shots and missing.

Because I saw Randy mixing the line up even the 2nd quarter. When Brk went back to their starters, we didn't. Kevin was still in and someone else, can't remember who. I could see what he was doing. Just trying line ups and get younger and newer players experience. I figured he would do more of that. Given Brk is so muck deeper, I expected the Wizard to look less organized and fall behind playing against their 2nd unit, then both teams would empty their benches.

Im fine with him doing what he did. It the first preseason game. I just wasnt in a hurry to return to the game because I was recording it. I saw mostly what I came for and that was seeing what the starters could do and they measured up well with their starters.

Blow out was probably a poor choice of words. I expect them to fall behind by 10 to 14.

So is Vesely going to find his niche in the league as a rebounding garbage man/fast break dunker who cant keep out of foul trouble?

Hes got nothing else. 6th pick...

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I was hoping Mirza Teletović was someone the Nets might cut but after seeing they signed him to a 3/YR $9Mil contract looks like they know what they are getting. Guy has a sweet stroke.

I could really see that guys weren't playing that hard because it was preseason. I sat one the Nets bench side and they were hyped the whole game.

Sad to say, the best we can hope for is an athletic Jeff Foster.

Exactly, Maynor is the type of player you give a training camp invite to. Better players only got training camp invites. Giving him guaranteed money over two years on the first day of free agency was probably like winning the lottery for him.

Its not an overreaction to game 1. The Okafor injury has left us thin up front. If Nene misses any time we're in big trouble. A guy like Gortat or Hawes, who can give us a solid 20-25 minutes a night at C would be a helpful addition to a team that is trying to make the playoffs. If Otto can get healthy, Ariza is a luxury we can't really afford given how thin we are up front. I wanted us to have an Ariza trade ready the second Otto was on the board and we were picking.

I was hoping you and Nivek were wrong but he looked terrible. Hopefully he can show some improvement the next few games....

One of their starters was out. The other 4 played a total of 50 minutes.

Our starters played @ 120 minutes -- half the game.

First pre-season game, so it means nothing. Still, not what you want to see. And in my case, I didn't get to see it. Comcast what a pain.
