Name me a team that's offering 30 mil a year? Ha, you're crazy. Look for a 5 yr 140 mil deal from the Yanks.
The problem has been the development, we've had above average talent that has flopped. They've come up significantly underdeveloped and it's about time there is some change. Mark Newman needs to go and a huge shake needs to occur because what's going on, is obviously not working.
Damon Oppenheimer has been a very good judge of talent and could/would possibly be a GM candidate in a lot of places. When you take his draft picks, which aren't always full of recognized names but typically high ceiling, then add in our signings in Latin America, we've had a good amount of high ceiling talent that just didn't materialize. Jeez, look at Joba, Hughes, Montero, Kennedy, Brackman, etc. We had some high level talent that just amounted to NOTHING.That's the department where heads need to roll. Sorry Mark, you've been here too long and need to be replaced.
I can see the Yankees offering Granderson that qualifying offer and him turning it down to get a multi-year deal. If that's the case, the Yanks can either use that pick or try and sign a player attached to compensation as well. I think Beltran is a good target, he can play the OF and DH and would CRUSH left field at Yankee Stadium.
I see us looking at the guy Tanaka from Japan this year and extend Kuroda the qualifying offer. If he takes it, great 1 more year. If not, hopefully we get draft picks for him too. Tanaka is in the Darvish mold, with very similiar stuff and numbers.
The goal to get under 189$ million is not because we are cheap but because right now we pay 50% on every dollar over the cap. If we get below $189 for one season, we would only pay 10% on every dollar over the cap. It's a significant amount of money and I don't see why people find it crazy to do so. It's not like it's a 189cap forever, it's a one year hurdle for the betterment of the future squads.
