Very Early but...Durant?

Post#1 » by imagump1313 » Thu Jul 25, 2013 5:00 pm

From the looks of it, Kevin Durant seems a little bit upset about how things are unfolding in OKC.

He will be a restricted FA in 2015 and UFA in 2016 I believe. By that time I'm pretty sure Timmy and Manu will be off the books. Could this be the opportunity to bring him back to Texas? I know it's entirely too early to hope for something like that but just thinking out loud when I saw that article.

That's a long ways away. But who wouldn't want Durant.

Durant wants to play with Belinelli :D

My evil plot to keep the Spurs in contention forever is panning out.

Not a chance. Timing doesn't fit, plus he like OKC, and if he leaves it'll be to a (much) bigger market, not a smaller one.

I don't know if he would like a bigger market. He's a low key guy and he'd be a great fit with this organization but like you said the timing just doesn't work.

Durant has been open about how he loves OKC, and if he does want to leave eventually you'd think it'd be because he wants to go to a big market like NY, not to SA. SA just has a bad record with free agents. Everyone remembers the 2003 hype when it was hoped big names would be added to a Spurs team who was fresh off a title. It didn't happen. I hope the Spurs do get big free agents in 2015, but I'm dubious about it. Even the most optimistic Spurs fans should be thinking about Aldridge (a Texas native) or Marc Gasol (if Memphis collapses and he decides he wants to play on a euro centric team), but more likely guys like Paul Milsap, or maybe overpaying for Klay or R.Jax.

Durant seems to me like one of those rare breed of NBA players that is more interested in winning a championship than how much he can market himself. The guy is already a movie star and is on every other commercial I see on TV while playing for a small market team.

I'm not sure what you mean by bad timing. His deal is up in 2016 so he can go anywhere he wants. He is a RFA in 2015. Timmy and Manu's deals are done in 2015 so the Spurs will have 17.3 million coming off the books. I would hope for a scenario where (if Timmy is still playing well) he might want to sign on the cheap for 1 more year if they could get Durant to come for a chance at a championship. There are alot of if's here and alot would depend on where Parker and Leonard's games are in 2 years, but I think the timing is pretty good. Yes, definitely a long, long shot but what else we have to talk about this time of year?

Durant LOVES him some Tony Parker! Obviously, what else is he going to say to the French media?

But still, 2015 is coming.......
