He used to play for my alma mater (before transfering). The guy can shoot it, no doubt.

We were all surprised. None of us knew what he can do. He shot 4/5 from the 3
Thanks for the info.

However, I noticed he was slow at rotating and struggled when Cavs were running some PnR.

Extremely raw, but surprised me with some of his passes, though I caught one where he just telegraphed it which might have something to do with his 5 TOs, that step-back jumper, and his aggressiveness to get to the free-throw line in 10 attempts.

Crazy he's only 18.

I wouldn't call him "extremely raw" at all other than his understanding on the defensive end. His ball handling certainly isn't extremely raw. His passing certainly isn't extremely raw. His overall understanding of the game certainly isn't extremely raw.

You make him sound like the Diop of SFs. He actually showed a ton of skill in his first game as well as a very good understanding of very basic basketball plays.

Fair enough. I didn't mean it like that but it's definitely going to take him some time to fully adjust in terms of making an immediate impact and helping the team win ball games, which is fine because he already has enough skill and he's only 18.

I was the one praising him so I'm definitely not hating on him. Maybe not extremely raw but he's definitely raw, which is expected. He's going to be a great player if he reaches his full potential.

He's a different kind of raw than we are used to seeing. He is more skilled than advertised but probably less athletic than advertised. He needs to get stronger and quicker while developing his natural bball iq from international play to NBA style.

He's raw in a maturity and speed of game sense, not raw in a lack skills kind of way.

Oladipo is a god send for Orlando. So glad they got him. Dude has potential to be very very special. Defensive machine with a tremendous work ethic and athleticism. Cannot wait to watch him.

The kid is going to be a seriously good player.

A less crazy and more dynamic guard version of Ron Artest. He is a player every single team would make a trade for if possible.

I will be following him strongly all season.

For a guy who many people said couldn't dribble well he's doing a pretty damn good job with it. I will admit, not watching him all that much in college I thought his handle was about the same as McLemore, but his is wayyyyyyy more advanced.

Yes he is! And he seems like a good kid too, I hate rooting for douche bags. This drat while weak at the top looks like their might be some diamonds in the rough. (Schroder, Hardaway, Olynk and Giannis)

He is clear and away the best player in the draft, which is saying a lot considering how early it is....preseason....but I haven't really heard many people on real gm hating on him, just national media/writers
I don't believe in statistics. There are too many factors that can't be measured. You can't measure a ballplayer's heart. -Red Auerbach

The rookie thread is my favorite thread on RealGM.

Last year the Lillard vs. AD vs. Drummond battle was great fun.

LOL. Love Knicks fans hyping up Tim Hardaway Jr. Guy was mediocre in college and he could never shoot. One preseason game doesn't change that.

he can shoot. he's just REALLY streaky and has a penchant for taking his share of low percentage, tough shots. he should fit right in over there.

This is a very difficult draft/rookie class to judge at this point.

I felt even before the draft, that teams from 7-15 might end up with players better than the guys selected 1-3.

This is a strange draft year. It's way too soon to accurately project any of these guys. Wait until a month or two after the season starts before feeling confident about any player evaluations.

One of the traits Hardaway had coming into this league was that he was capable of making it rain from deep.

Shooting, though streaky, wasn’t really a knock on him coming in and to say he could never shoot would be incorrect.

Theirs always ONE poster that cant help but attack knicks fans, its like an addiction , how cant he shoot but shooting is one of his strongest strengths?? he's deadly from the corner 3 and very effective in catch and shoot situations. ( you could of just said he has poor shot selection)

Im not going to sit here and say i watched a bunch of Michigan games because i didnt, but ive seen enough to know he's not someone the defense would gamble on leaving open.

And whos "hyping him up" ? if anything were just excited about our new rookie because of the way he's performing, he's looked good in training camp and so far looks good in pre-season.

Nobodys crowing him the next superstar of the NBA
