Offical Draft Thread.

Post#1 » by Buck You » Thu Jun 7, 2007 3:15 am

Well this thing is tommorow, going to be televised. I have no exams and I don't have to go to school tommorow so I'll probably watch it. Post your insights in here about who we should draft and who to avoid. We have the 7th pick. Go Brewers.

If he falls to 7 because of money Matt Wieters.

My board for who will most likely be there.

1. Mike Moustakas
2. Rick Porcello
3. Daniel Moskos
4. Jarrod Parker
5. Casey Weathers

It's interesting that we may actually take a shot at one of Boras' guys.

Haudricourt had a good article in todays paper on the draft.

In general going for High School pitchers can be really risky (though the Brewers went with Jeffress last year). Seems like since they won't have 2nd round pick they should swing for the fences and go for the top bat. The MLB draft is such a crapshoot but if they really feel strongly about a guys talent, I have faith in the Brewers scouting which has been pretty good in the past 5 years. But if they have guys rated pretty close than you have to consider "signability" since they aren't the yankees/dodgers.

SI.com has us taking prep SS Mike Moustakas. My dream scenario has Matt Wieters dropping to us.

ESPN Insider has us taking Weiters. w00t!

I know some believe him to be overrated but the guy is as close to the Majors as a college bat is and we need a high level catching prospect.

I would do backflips if we got Weiters. To have him and Salome in our system would be like Atlanta having McCann and Saltalamacchia. You can never have too many catching prospects, and we would have three very good ones in Weiters, Angel Salome, and Lou Palmisano.

I'd like the Brewers to simply make a splash and get the BPA. I think most would have Weiters there but Porcello is probably in the same boat. Both Boras guys who are looking to get huge money. Come on Mark A; no time to be cheap :)

I'm hopeful for a college pitcher of some kind. The top of the draft appears to have a few in that department, I'm sick of seeing these HS pitchers not make much progress down on the farm.

A mashing corner outfielder would be my second wish.

How long between picks? I hope it's 5 minutes or so.

Moustakas, Weiters or Porcello. I'd love either one....and, considering we don't have our second round pick, I don't think you'll se the Brewers hesitate to open up their wallet. They've got some cash to burn, so you might as well use it on a big time palyer, particularly if he can be in the majors soon (aka Weiters).

I believe teams have 5 minutes to pick. It usually goes quickly, but that might change with TV involved.

Also of note in that if the guy you pick doesn't sign, you get an additional pick after that next season. So if you take Weiters and he doesn't sign, we're looking at an additional top 10 pick next year.

"an additional top 10 pick"

don't you mean a top 10 pick. they wouldn't have two unless they tanked like the bucks.
