clear roster spot and sign Barbosa?

Post#1 » by qm22 » Sat Oct 12, 2013 9:48 pm

Just saw in the WT that Barbosa is almost ready for an NBA return (admittedly I didn't know he was out and a FA before that).

He's always been a good competitor and IIRC seems to have made positive impacts when given an opportunity on good teams.

Also, he is a career .391 3 point shooter and can play PG/SG. Even if he does not fully recover his great speed I'd rather have him playing than Singler and Bynum, on any roster, and he could help our shooting weakness.

He's been a non-factor for every team he's played for since he left Phoenix. No reason to pay somebody to go away just to take a flyer on him.

Orlando is looking to trade AA from what I understand. We got the pieces, land him. Boo to Barbosa. Another player Nash made look like a star.

"Orlando is looking to trade AA from what I understand. "

No need to go after AA on a huge contract when we've got KCP on a rookie deal. They have very similar skill sets.

FWIW, I don't think KCP is ready to start and needs someone to teach him the ropes. But yes, I wouldn't touch AA's contract.

Step 1
"hey look some player is available who used to be good, lets sign him and/or clear a spot to sign him"

Step 2
turn thread into a Stuckey trade thread.

Gotta feeling that it's Singler's spot to lose... Cheeks has given him positive reviews.
As mentioned Barbosa had a decent run in Phoenix... I preferred drafting Barbosa over Delfino at the time but he just doesn't seem to have the IQ to recognize shot selection.

Since we don't know if Gores is willing to go into the tax to re-sign our FAs we should give this squad a chance to meld b4 taking on major contracts (Stuckey + assets for AA)

Except we know AA can play in the league.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Barbosa was a really good player but has had a few chances since then and hasnt performed. I wouldnt be interested in that.
Also, we can do so much better than AA with stuckey/cv's 17mil in expiring contracts. Stop bringing it up. Thats a lot of money for free agency and extensions for moose and dre. We can throw a lot of money at players much better than AA. He is so overrated around here.

We don't need another undersized shoot first and pass second guy. We have Bynum for that role. The NBA only allows one per team. We'll pass!
