Now, this might sound mean but can Deron just give his ankle injury to Tyshawn as well?

yeah, tyshawn just doesn't seem to get it. seems like he approaches every game as an opportunity to show out. like he's auditioning for his next team.

I was sitting near the Nets bench, and Taylor came out right after halftime, and then went back to the locker room with Walsh, and I never saw him return to the bench. Looked like he was in a lot of pain. Addition by subtraction.

Also, it's amazing to see how active KG is in on the bench always I'm everyone's ear. He will do so much for this team from purely an emotional standpoint. It's great to see everyone on the bench interacting like that.

disappointed with the starting units defense again. giving up way too many points way too many FTs. hope we progress on that next preseason game.

This is excellent. :D

Wish I could have watched this. Hopefully the first unit can get it together defensively, they are a tad bit slow so I knew that may have been a problem. Definitely can't stop us on O though.

Deron needs to get back on the court.

I still believe the offense will dominate most teams regardless of who's scoring, but I think a somewhat clear pecking order should be established on offense.

When the Heat first got together, they didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings so they just let LBJ and Wade take turns with the offense and it ended up hurting them, especially since neither player is a tremendous off-the-ball shooter.

When they finally scrapped that and established that LBJ is going to be the initiator and the main guy, everyone else was able to fall in line and get accustomed to their role.

Having a lot of options on offense is definitely a good problem to have, but it still can be a problem especially when things get tough and no one knows what to do.

I prefer having Pierce higher than JJ in the pecking order because he's better at penetrating and opening things up for his teammates especially early on in the offense. I know Pierce came in the with the mindset of not worrying about his shots but I have the feeling that he's being too passive now. He can still ball and he should still be averaging 14-16ppg. The only difference is that he should be able to get his points at an easier/more relaxed clip.

Here's my list (in order) of our options on offense:
1) Lopez - (no explanation needed)
2) Pierce - (still one of the best scorers in the game, and yet very unselfish)
3) D-Will - (initiates the offense, but if Lopez/Pierce can't get their shots he can reset the O or look to score)
4) JJ - (run to the corners and take open wing 3s or exploit 1-on-1 mismatches with smaller guards)
5) KG - (PnP scorer; doesn't need to do much more than that)

Well, I think with regards to the defense, it's kind of clear that they're coasting right now. None of our 4 best players right now (KG, Lopez, Pierce, JJ) are really trying defensively, and it shows. Chasing guys off ball, nobody gives much effort, nobody's really contesting shots that much, nobody's really boxing out.

Just wait until we get into the RS, and you'll see KG ramp his intensity up, and everyone else will follow. I'm pretty confident of that. That's what happened in Boston last year to be honest. They were pretty poor defensively in the beginning of the RS, but then they flipped a switch, sparked by KG, and they ended up being a top 10 defense once again.

So I'm not too worried about the defense. And even offensively, we're really just shooting jumpers or getting layups by feeding Lopez inside, so we're not really giving much effort there either and we're still dominating. That's a fantastic sign, especially since we're doing that without Deron. Imagine when he comes back?

Excellent post & I basically agree.

After incorrectly being labeled as a selfish ballhog early in his career, Paul has demonstrated over & over again that he is a consummate team player & highly skilled facilitator - aside from a professional scorer. NYCEO, my major complaint with Paul the last few years or so, is that he occasionally becomes TOO unselfish! He sometimes does not choose to take over when he should take over.

PS What the hell is going on with DWill's ankles? DWill needs to have an elite season for the Nets to win.

Some take aways so far...

1. D.Will is the one player we cannot afford an injury to.. and of course he's injured. Livingston is a nice back-up but Taylor is not. Also, if Lopez goes down at least we have KG and Blatche waiting. I hope we get another 3rd string PG, or Terry shows he can handle minutes there.

2. Our defense will never be elite, but we should be top 10 once the regular season starts. AK, KG and Lopez is too much size and shotblocking. However, Detroit is exactly the type of team that is going to hurt us. Athletic, quick and big. I'm more worried about our perimeter D as D.Will, JJ and PP are a bit slow. I would love to have a Butler/Shumpert/Leonard type athletic defender on the wing.

3. Our offense is going to win us a lot of game with the passing and skill, but we need to get transition points off of rebounds and steals if we plan on having easy nights.

4. I'd love to see Toko back this preseason. He and AK could be a nice tandem at the forwards.

5. Detroit and Drummond are the real deal. Washington did not impress me nearly as much. Detroit could even take the 5 seed from NY.

was at the game last night. lots of hacking to start the game, which slowed down the pace.

i loved the ball movement by the starters, and though i was skeptical about johnson participating in this winning style of play, he seemed into it. there are weapons at every starting position but going forward coach kidd is going to really have to monitor minutes and bring along some of these bench players so the older vets still have legs come the varsity season (playoffs).

the bench looked sketchy to me-- you wish evans could work on his free throws. he has a hitch in his motion at the top of his shot and does not involve his legs enough. all those offensive rebounds but if they don't convert to points then he is closer to a zero sum player which would be a real shame.

jaric may end up being an important pickup if only by default because of williams' ankles. jaric has a tough time staying in front of his smaller assignments but he seems like a good ballhandler who looks to distribute.

have to say it is GREAT seeing pierce and garnett in nets uniforms.

Paradise wrote:The camp additions are in. The starters looked good, Pierce didn't look for his shot. Passed up some open looks, the bench needs work but it's obvious Livingston/AK will be the brains of the bench and the D.

Everything looked pretty good for the most part. Brook got into foul trouble early and missed two rotations early on but with AK at PF, his D looked alot better.

Livingston, Jet, and AK should be able to anchor that 2nd team. Just need whoever is playing up front to play smarter and we're good.

What are AK's combined stats now in the pastc two games? He must have a 5x5 in 40ish minutes

i see detroit fighting for a 7-8 seed. they have one of the worst shooting teams in the east and 2 of the biggest turnover machines around in their starting lineup. i think they are the classic looks good on paper stinks on the floor type teams.

they will hav games where they put up 120, block tons of shots and get tons of dunks but too many mixed in 20 turnover 40% shooting nights.
