Re: Trade Landscape
I think you're undervaluing Monroe- he'll garner plenty of interest from a number of teams.
Avery Bradley for Monroe? I'm assuming you mean as part of a sign and trade or something? Not sure what you mean because Monroe is soon staring 10-12 million per year and Avery might fetch 3 or 4 mill a year.
One team I think would be a great trade partner with is the Kings- if we blow it up.
They've signed Cousins and need some pieces to be a perrenial playoff lurker- perhaps even more if Cousins blows up in a good way.
If Rondo is looking okay or finishes the season unscathed and we don't have any good looking free agency prospects (notes or hints from agents, media etc)- perhaps Danny decides it's time to move Rondo and start with a bang. We've likely secured our own top 8 pick with a 30 win record and on draft night we pull something like....
Rondo
Green
for
Mclemore
Kings 2014 first rounder (probably top 5-8)
Salary filler(salmons+Outlaw)
We start 2014-15 from the ground up with
*2014 pick of our own (Jabari/Randle/Smart/Gordon/Exum/Embid blah blah)
*2014 pick of the Kings (one of the above)
*Ben Mclemore
*Sully
*Olynyk
Stevens going into his second season with a squad of young studs and lots of potential.
The 2015 draft is also loaded so we develop these guys and hope to draft another top 6 pick.
By Stevens 3rd or 4th year we'll be on the up and a possible free agency destination with hopefully a superstar player or two solid All Star players to work around.
Kings get their stud to pair with Cousins and Green is the icing on the cake- they are now a free agency destination too whilst we get 2 top 8 picks in the 2014 draft and Mclemore as a promising young all star potential kid.

One day Marcus Smart will be defensive player of the year, mark my words.

andy582 wrote:Lee's only slightly overpaid- his contract looks bad because we have so many shooting guards- but he can be a solid rotation player in the right situation. With Holiday, Evans, Davis and Ryan Anderson taking shots for the Pelicans, they may want a shooting guard who can fill a complementary role. And it's misleading to call Green "a guy who missed a season"- he's clearly back now, and healthy, and without the chronic injury risks that Gordon seems to have. It's partly a salary dump for NOP, and turning one expensive injury-prone player into two less expensive healthier players is reducing their risk and increasing their flexibility..
I am not trying to argue your points as much as get you to understand that they are fine to convince yourself about but there is no way another team is buying this idea.
Courtney Lee is a solid rotational player but he is being paid like a starter you can buy a simliar back up SG for half the money he is being paid. Jeff Green is being paid almost double him and is not off to the kind of start that is going to have teams clamoring to trade for him. There is no cost saving in this trade for NO and they are giving up the best, youngest and most proven player in the deal.
This isn't the time for NO to sell low on Gordon now is the time to find out what you have when he is surrounded by some guys who can play. Even if they do decide to sell Gordon short what they are going to want is to cut salary not take on more salary. They may be interested in a Bradley/Humphries package but trying to deal Green, Lee, or Bass is going to be difficult on its own unless they start to play up to their salaries trying to combine them into one deal is going to be near impossible.

Re: Trade Landscape
3 time frames for a big trade.
#1-Trade deadline. Ainge could utilize expiring deals (Hump, Bogans, etc), a young player or 2 and/or picks to make a big deal.
#2- Draft. You cannot officially deal on Draft night but you can put the deal in place like what we saw with KG/PP/Terry to Brooklyn this past June. If Ainge isn't in love with a player where he's drafting then there's always the possibility of
a blockbuster going down. We saw it with the Ray Allen deal and we saw it this past summer.
#3- Mid Summer. My guess is it would be a subsequent deal to a previous trade Ainge made on either the trade deadline or at the draft.
If Ainge is keeping Rondo around and extending him long-term then his approach is likely going to be build through trade and free agency. Find ways to build a contender with Rondo.
the other option is deal Rondo and build through the draft with multiple lottery balls and cap space.
My guess is that Ainge is keeping Rondo around and finding trade partners.

Re: Trade Landscape
What about Bass and AB for Asik?
Houston gets a PF that can space out for D12. In AB they get a solid PG defender to play with Harden who won't have to handle all the time. We get a defensive big to solidify our frontcourt and help alleviate some of the logjam.

I'd do this in a heart beat. Celtics need a big, need to trade Bass and need to get rid of some guards. I don't think Houston does it just yet, but in about 3 months Avery's value should be higher and I can see them taking this. Specially if Asik struggles due to Dwights presence just like Gasol did.

sully00 wrote:The problem with moving Green and Lee is that they are owed 34 mil over the next 3 years. So in any kind of "even trade" one that doesn't involve you throwing in draft picks you have to take back the same kind of money. Eric Gordon is a good example of the type of salary you need to take back. But if your the Hornets why would you want to swap Gordon's 29 mil for Green and Lee's 34 mil?
To me the best path to a trade for Boston is Avery Bradley (outside of Sullinger and KO). For Bradley to play well enough that a contending team would desire him as a starter and at the same time needs to liquidate a pricey star talent that doesn't fit the team. Boston could use Bradley and Hump to offer a team the ability to cut salary instead of Boston focusing on cutting salary for a FA bonanza that is ill fated to being with.
I like Bradley so I just want him to play well for this team but I think realistically he has the chance to be this team's most valuable trade chip that this team is going to be willing to move.
I don't think Gordon opts out of his final year @ $15.5 mil so it's actually closer to swapping $46 mil in Gordon for $44 mil in Lee and Green (assuming Green picks up his own team option). A very small annualized savings for NO, but with the added benefit of a 2-for-1, and Lee and Green having much cleaner bills of health than Gordon. But we can always swap Bogans in for Lee (and save NO an extra $10 mil).
I can see multiple scenarios where the deal makes sense for both teams. If Gordon continues to miss 50%+ of his team's games and Jeff Green struggles in the #1 role, it would be a case of swapping problems. Green could have more of a support role in NO (with Holiday and Evans taking on shot-creation duties) for a team that wants to make the playoffs, while Boston, with its greater risk appetite, would take a flier on Gordon eventually returning to form. Similar to the deal where we dealt our talented, healthy but problematic threesome of Banks, Davis and Blount for the chronically injured Wally Z.
Alternately, Gordon stays healthy and Green thrives. Could still make a lot of sense, as NO still has a lot of duplication with Evans and Gordon (and Rivers if he shows anything) and only the non-shooting Aminu at their 3-spot.
As for Bradley, I'd rather hold onto him if his contract demands aren't unreasonable. I think he's more valuable to us than the rest of the league.

I think people are flat out forgetting what a healthy Rondo-Bradley backcourt looked like. That's an excellent starting point for building a championship level backcourt, even if Bradley eventually slots in as a backup combo guard in the event that Ainge lands a stud scoring SG.
Asik is a nice piece but the banger/defensive center role can often be filled at a lower price point. You just don't see guards at such a young age who defend like AB and aren't complete crap on the other end.
IMO, having Bradley in place (plus an immovable Lee at SG) makes an acquisition of Gordon a complete non-starter. If we're going for Asik I'd be looking moreso at Green/Vitor/pick as a package.

Re: Trade Landscape
What about phx? We have Bledsoe, gortat and 3 first round draft pics in next years draft. And yes Bledsoe is available according to local reports in az. Though the suns are not going to give up their own draft pic simply because it's probably a top 3 pick but the other 2 picks are available. Would bledsoe, gortat, and 2 (1st round picks) draft picks work for rondo?
I am such a lucky NBA fan. 8647 My favorite team went from the most greedy and racist owner to the most ego driven dumbass owner in all of sports fdt.

Not really. If Boston trades for Gortat it would be to play him with Rondo. If Boston is going to trade Rondo for a package with Bledsoe then it would be get get younger. The picks aren't that exciting as they are lottery protected but I imagine that they could spin Gortat off for more pick(s). It isn't something anyone is going to get all excited about but isn't terrible.
I don't think Rondo is going to be getting moved though unless it is for a top 3 pick because he doesn't seem to want out and even if he did want out of Boston I doubt he wants into PHX.

Re: Trade Landscape
I think Hump gets moved at the deadline. Not in a big deal, I just see Danny getting something in return for his expiring contract. He's a guarenteed starter to begin the season, IMO.
Bradley all depends on how he plays during the first half of the season. If he lights it up, I'm sure Danny will explore getting value in return for him at the deadline ... otherwise he'll be resigned this summer to a fair contract.
Asik and Gortat serve no purpose on this roster, or in Danny's plans going forward.
Next summer is where Danny starts making more aggressive moves. You'll hear nonstop Rondo rumors. Oy Vey. A lot depends on our draft position. If Danny gets the stud that he wants, then he'll go all out in moving players and building around that pick ...

No. We're not forgetting. It was 26 or so fun filled games full of cuts off the ball and defensive pressure. I don't like AB as a starter though. He's an energy off the bench guy. I want more of a shooter or scorer starting next to Rondo. He's a complementary guy not a building block.
Asik meanwhile is a KG-level game-changer on defense. He swallows up rebounds and his defensive impact is felt all over the floor for that Houston team. He was impact Chicago the same way when he was there too. He's excellent defending on the post and what's so good about him is that he defends his man and contests shots without fouling. You bring in Asik as your Center and Sully and KO slot in very nicely next to him. And their inside/outside game complements his very well. I agree with Bruin that Houston is not ready to make this move yet but Danny will be keeping an eye on that Houston situation. I think it's gonna fail and when it does Danny will have his buddy Kevin McHale on speed dial again with a deal that really when you think about it, helps both teams tremendously.

How can a young, defensive minded, rebounding centre not serve a purpose on this (or any) team? The next Shaq or Duncan is not going to be coming any time soon so our next super star will probably play the four or one of the wing positions.
Give me Asik on this team any day of the week.

I don't know what else to tell you. I don't have them on me but the Synergy stats don't lie. 2 years ago while we were watching that dynamic Rondo/AB backcourt do their thing and AB had some absurd points per possession against that was like .699 or something over the course of the season. There was one player who had better number for him all year and he played for Chicago. Guess what that player's name was? And while you're at it, take a gander at Houston's defensive numbers with Asik on the court last year vs him off of it. Major difference. It's gonna remind you of someone.
What the hell. Since you stopped reading I'll post this for others to read:

Wouldn't really consider Gortat young, as he'll be 30 this season .. Boston is rebuilding. Trading for Asik is a 'win now' type of move. I think its evident from this past offseason that Danny Is not in a win now mindset .. He wants picks and young assets ... Not vets entering the last yr of their contracts next season .. Just my opinion

I was talking about Asik in this case, I am not that interested in Gortat unless Phoenix would take Bass and Lee of our hands for him. Then you are getting an actual centre which we dont have, who expires at the end of this season, and helps with our logjam at the 2 and the 4.
As for rebuilding, there is nothing wrong with having a win now attitude and focusing on having young players/assets as well, the two are not exclusive of each other.

Instead of being all butthurt, just look at the links. They do all my talking better than I could. So are those stats wrong? I didn't make them up. I didn't post those videos showing his defensive skills. Asik whether people want to admit it or not is legit defensively. All jokes aside humblebum, I figured you were smart enough to read and at least grudgingly admit he is a very good defensive player. At least another poster made a decent argument that Asik may be more of a win-now move. I'm not sure I agree but there's merit to that position. Expected a little better from you. But since you're only reading the first lines of posts these days it may not matter.

I anticipate Ainge holds onto Humphries and let's him expire. I think that losing his salary opens up Ainge's flexibility to take on more salary in trade next off-season, including using the $10.3mm exemption.
