Let's say Braun isn't suspended (Attanasio had no clue) and we had a healthy offense.

That offense probably scores 750+ runs. Lohse helped the pitching staff only allow 680 (still not great). That's a possible playoff team. Of course it derailed with older guys like A-Ram and Hart going down and Weeks falling off a cliff coupled with Braun's suspension. However, you can explain on paper how that team could make the playoffs. Herb Kohl's teams were garbage and he would pay premium dollar to go .500 even with relatively good health.

Attanasio and Melvin have been pretty great. The moves to get CC and later to get Greinke (necessarily preceded by Marcum) were very aggressive, all-time great kind of moves. Both of those moves could have led them to the World Series, esp if Sheets had stayed healthy the CC year and Marcum hadn't imploded the other year. I'm happy with their aggressiveness. I can even understand the Lohse signing, despite how badly the season turned out.

If we had a scouting team that had a habit of selecting great pitchers in the 1st round, then I'd be more upset about the Lohse signing. And yes, Kerb's right, that's the main problem. It's gotta be a huge disappointment for the organization that neither Jungmann and Bradley is in the majors yet--and not even close. Not to mention Arnett, Heckathorn et al.

Hard to compare Kohl and Attanasio, because the Brewers made win-now moves that could have gotten them a championship--partly because baseball has less playoff teams. Kohl makes win-now moves for an 8th seed with little chance of winning even one round.

2014, to me, seems pretty obvious.

1. Sign Hart to a "prove it" deal if cheap enough.
2. Sign a reclamation project pitcher.
3. One more lefty corner bat and relievers if money permits.

Let the chips fall where they may. If healthy, this is still a top 5 NL offense.

If out of it at the deadline, almost everyone is ripe for a trade with 1 year left.

id take another Lohse type pitcher, on the same $ deal

i prefer 12 fielders and 13 pitchers

Lohse, NEW SP, Gallardo, Peralta, Estrada

Henderson and 7 more pitching spots

aoki, segura, gomez, braun, ramirez, lucroy, hart, gennett (2b/ss)

maldonado, davis, francisco (1b/3b), weeks

if we don't sign Hart, who starts at 1B ? Francisco ? id think it would be another platoon situation.
bring up Morris maybe. or can keep Bianchi for another IFer, and use Davis and both catchers at 1B.

Yeah because it sure as **** isn't Scooter. If RRR put Scooter at SS at any point I'd have serious questions as to whether he's been taking drugs

He put Betancourt at SS, so he may try Scooter there because he was obviously taking drugs putting Yuni there.

Ron gave Betancourt 391 at bats this year, he's without question on drugs.

Yuni at least had been a SS at one point. But yeah I get your point.

To be fair to Ron though, if I had to watch all 162 Brewers games this year I'd have been on drugs too.

I assume your supplier is happy.
But you really should get some sort of award for that. Tbh I watched most of the games, probably somewhere in the 130ish range.

All 162 is pretty impressive. I didn't bother with most of the post AS games and I didn't watch any of the day games so I probably only watched 80-90. Most were pretty painful to watch.

All 162 -- that's real impressive for sure, especially this year. This was probably the least I watched and I only went to 1 game as well. The last few years my interest hasn't quite been there for the Crew. I think once Fielder left I kinda felt the window closing on a World Series run, so a certain disappointment level probably.

It will be interesting to see the direction the team goes. I kind of hope they just continue to roll with youth. Alot of storylines into next year though with Braun, RR/Melvin are probably on the hot seat (RR for sure), and you'll have some veteran pieces you can maybe move (Lohse, Aramis). The problem is the division isn't getting any easier. Cards are the Cards, Pirates are a solid team, Reds could go either way, and the Cubs are on the upswing if you believe in their farm system/hype.

I probably watched about 60 games all the day through and then checked in for at least a couple innings on another 50. I didn't watch anything for the last 50 games or so.

This^^^^. After the all-star break I basically only watched when Peralta, Thornburg, or Hellweg was pitching.

Anyone know anything about Jason Rodgers. Seems to have played nice in the minors so far but is 25 already.
