Media Day / Training Camp / Pre-Season

Post#1 » by RRFB » Tue Oct 1, 2013 12:40 am

Hard to believe the first pre-season game is less than a week away. Today was media day for most of the league, including the Nuggets, meaning training camp begins tomorrow.

Audio from the Shaw/Connelly press conference can be found here. If you don't want to listen to the entire ~40 minutes, the official Nuggets twitter, Hochman and Dempsey have posted some good quotes.

Pre-season Schedule:
10/6 @ L.A. Lakers - 7:30 PM
10/8 @ L.A. Lakers - 8:00 PM
10/14 vs San Antonio - 7:00 PM (Altitude)
10/15 @ Oklahoma City - 6:00 PM
10/19 @ L.A. Clippers - 8:30 PM
10/23 vs Phoenix - 7:00 PM (Altitude)
10/25 @ Chicago - 6:00 PM
10/30 @ Sacramento - 8:00 PM (Altitude)

I love Shaw's response to just about every questions from that press conference. He really sounds like the anti-Karl.

And speaking of George Karl, he's no longer unemployed.

I kind of like the idea that shaw wants the Nuggets to bring some toughness back on the court, it will be interesting to see how some of the guys handle it though, some seemed to fold when the games got physical last year.

Well, the idea is not just to say they will be tough, it will to actually be tough. So, it's going to take a sizing up of the league and remaining just as tough.

It's one thing to be tough and another to have 3 fouls called before the first 15 minutes have expired.

The opposing team trying to run AND break through a brick wall, at altitude? If done correctly, very draining, very effective.

I still wonder if Miller will get traded soon.

Nate/Dre at the 2 will be disastrous

First quarter:

Liked McGee, Fournier, Hamilton, Mozgov, Hickson's games so far.

Quincy looks lost, Foye I never had any expectations to begin with but Fournier should be starting over him.

Not sure if Faried can be a productive player next to McGee.

Overall pretty good defensively.

well, this sort of play doesn't get me excited for the future. i'm sure it'll get better though. cannot wait to see this lineup and i hope it becomes the regular: ty/fournier/gallo/faried/mcgee --- robinson/foye/chandler/hickson/mozgov

I'm thinking:

McGee / Mozgov
Hickson / Faried
Chandler / Hamilton
Fournier / Miller
Lawson / Nate

I might be too harsh on Foye though. Just didn't like his signing.

It's preseason so you can give coach a lot of latitude, BUT hopefully he walks away seeing that Hamilton needs consistent minutes... you can start him or Fournier over Foye... But Ham needs his burn every night and he deserves it.
I like my prospects the same way I like my women... foreign- pickIBL

Nice to see some chemistry between Hickson and Nate.

I already like the additions of Hickson/Arthur. Having bigs that can shoot is going to make such big difference. We literally have shooters everywhere now.

Foye made it rain in that first quarter too.

He really looks like the weak link in the starting lineup.

Tries to do too much. When we signed him, I thought he'd be a player that stands in the corner and shoots 3s. But it seems like he's running our offense.

That fourth quarter was not inspiring. Have a feeling that Shaw has already decided that his end of game rotations should have Foye and Lawson in it.

McGee / Mozgov
Hickson / Faried
Chandler / Randolph
Fournier / Miller
Lawson / Nate

Would be my rotation.

Brian needs to play Fournier more. If foye is the starter I would expect Evan to take that role later in the yr.

Also I hope shaw brings faried off the bench, and start jj hickson.

It's a shame about Jordan Hamilton. I had really high hopes for him and thought he'd consolidate himself as a JR Smith type spark player this year.

That's two coaches now, he's going to quickly find himself out of the league. Trying to watch closely today, he stands around doing nothing too much, needs to cut/move around more.
