Open Practice - 10/20
Raps fan here who happened to get tickets to the "Nets open practice" through my company. Two questions:
- Can anyone recommend a restaurant to attend before the event (doors open @ 1pm)? This will be my first time to the arena and I've never been to that area... I assume there is a lot of bar food outside of the arena, any recommendations?
- Is the open practice essentially just a scrimmage? Anything more fun to expect?
Thanks (and Raps in 4)!!

Is the practice at Barclays?

If you want a laid back atmosphere I'd recommend Stonehome Wine Bar and Restaurant. Not too far off from the arena and you also have the option of the 40/40 Club in the arena also. I heard the restaurant there is pretty good as well but expensive. There is also a Buffalo Wild Wings and Applebees near by.
From my knowledge the Open Practice would feature some interaction with the crowd like 3 point shooting contests, free throw contests along with a 5 on 5 scrimmage and player drills.

Shoot...forgot about this.
I have tickets for the Open Practice but I won't be able to attend.
Anyone want my tickets? I think I can just email them to you.

Yea, tomorrow (Oct 20) 2-4pm. Doors open at 1.
I heard there was something like a scrimmage and a "half court shoot contest" but that's about it.

Looks like that restaurant only opens at 5pm. So if I get out of Atlantic Terminal should I expect a lot of restaurants/bars in that area, or is it more industrial?
I'm on Google maps in street view but its tough to gauge... and the images are from when Barclays Center was being built so not sure if new restaurants pooped up after the fact. And b.c. it is only a practice I don't think that the arena's restaurants will be working.
Lastly, is it easy to hail a yellow taxi from Atlantic Terminal to the Dumbo area? The walk is too far right? I imagine there are yellow taxis everywhere (sorry I'm never in Brooklyn)?

You'll see more stores than restaurants soon as you come out. A taxi or bus is pretty easy to get over by the Atlantic Terminal from Dumbo is about 20 minutes further down.

Awesome! Thanks so much man, I'll put them to good use.
Oh, and if you don't mind can you edit out my email from the quotes? I just don't want spambots to find it later.

No problem.
There are a few Nets events that I know I won't be able to go to this season, but I grab the tickets anyway because I know you guys (or other Nets fans you know) could use them.
Also, took out the address.

You the man NyCe. Anyone who's there want to shoot some live updates on what the overall atmosphere is like, anything funny or cool that would be awesome.

Re: Open Practice - 10/20
Lots of smiles throughout, the team chemistry is great. During the question and answer session Jason Terry and Shaun Livingston both declared that Mason Plumlee was their spokesman and had him answer for them, which seems to be some kind of good-natured rookie hazing. D-Will looked good even though he sat out the scrimmage. Terry participated in everything including contact, so I wasn't surprised to hear that he'll be playing against Boston. It looked like AK's back was still bothering him some, he sat out the later half of the practice with something wrapped around his body. Livingston came over to check on him once and put his hand on his shoulder. KG rested, and Blatche played with the starters in his place. Toko was still out. I think that about covers it!
Thanks again to NyCe for the hookup.

Re: Open Practice - 10/20
Nice. Did fans get to ask questions? Did you guys get to meet the players and get autographs?

Fans were able to tweet questions and players answered about 4 of them at the end. My memory is fuzzy but was something along these lines:
#1 To Deron: How does it feel having future HOF Jason Kidd as your coach?
KG answered... gave a shout out to Brooklyn and said that Kidd is young and understands the players.
#2: To Terry: [forgot]
Terry answered that his representative is Plumlee... and Plumlee went on to answer the question, but I forgot what it was.
#3 To Livingston: What team do you guys look most forward to playing?
Livingston also said that Plumlee was his representative... Plumlee answered that they are looking forward to playing everyone, but ultimately want to beat the Champion Heat
#4 to Blatche: What is the most fun thing to do off the court?
[don't remember Blatche's answer but he was clowning around]
There was no autograph session. There were raffles to win signed memorabilia. Free shirts and hats were given to everyone... but they have the Outlook logo on them

Re: Open Practice - 10/20
Beautiful arena... got there early and was lucky to get front row seats:

Pierce was making every shot. His jumper is amazing. Unfortunately he tweaked his ankle or something in a short scrimmage. Didn't look serious though:

Team chemistry was good. Blatche showed the ability to dribble the ball. In shoot around Teletovic was making everything. Joe Johnson did not shot that well tho. Reggie was aggressive offensively. KG is huge but Terry looked so small. Also, Kidd was very quiet and inactive... Lawrence Frank ran the show:

Re: Open Practice - 10/20
Teletovic has a solid build... and a ridiculous jumper and range. Mason Plumlee's shooting form isn't that good. Very flat shot and he missed a lot of close jumpers. In shoot around Brook Lopez was taking 3s... not sure if a sign of things to come or just messing around. KG's jumper was solid:

Kirilenko hurt his hip, possibly lower back, early in the practice. He got ice wrapped around his lower back and sat out:

Alan Anderson was playing PG on the 2nd squad. And sidenote, Livingston looked athletic and healthy... still very fast:

You didn't miss much. It was nice to see the players up close but the event was very short. A lot of time was wasted on stretching/jogging drills. Then a shooting drill followed by something resembling a 5-3 full court sequence. The scrimmage was for like 15 minutes.
Depending on where you live, the commute may not be worth it for less than 2 hours of "practice". Besides seeing the players, the only other two highlights were that the team was shooting very well and that during the scrimmage guys were actually trying and playing physically.
