Gordon Hayward's Worth?

Post#1 » by WaffleRecord » Mon Oct 21, 2013 4:32 am

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 10m
Heard first strong rumbles this weekend that Gordon Hayward, like Derrick Favors, will indeed get extension from Jazz before Oct. 31 buzzer

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 9m
Jazz won't go any farther publicly than acknowledging talks ongoing but I'm told deal -- if completed -- will be richer than Favors' deal

Just curious what others think he's worth. Is he worth near max?

Anything more than 4/40 will disappoint me and even that has me iffy.

If he gets near max I will be very disappointed. Jazz moves this offseason have been awesome. This would be a big blunder IMO. I think 11 max

4 years / 38 - 44 million.

Anything more is certainly overpaying, and like mentioned, would be a bad move amongst some quality ones they have made recently.

I'll probably get flamed for this but meh.

I'm not as impressed with Hayward as others seem to be. Doesn't seem like a long-term #2 to me. A #3 guy at best.
$28/3 yrs seems fair to me.

Hayward is a good player but anything over 10 or so /yr is an overpay. Not that he couldn't live up to say 50/4 or something like that, but he would have to improve quite a bit.

I think around $8m/year is fair. He'll probably end up closer to the $10m/year though.

14/3/3 on 43.5% is now a 10m/year player?

1m on top of MLE is the max i'll pay.

4/40 is solid imo. hayward's shown the most improvement on that roster. versatile, intelligent, good shooter, improving shot creating ability, improved on the ball defense, potential 2ndary ball-handling ability (i see he's running some point forward).

i heard he created a pretty big buzz this summer with his performance for usa basketball, impressing onlookers. it'd behoove them to lock him up asap.

anything over 9 mil a year is overpay for his production...but I guess he may finally get more playing time this season.

Locking him up early is probably going to be a solid move if they can keep his deal in the ballpark of Favors'. If they pass on the extension I can see him getting offers somewhere between Batum and George as a restricted free agent.

I don't like this.

The Jazz don't have a franchise player and they should not be handing out long term deals to lock in a core that will not be good enough to win a ring.

As much as I like Hayward I don't like a deal that has him getting more than Favors right now. I liked us pulling the trigger on Favors since I think he'll command more attention next offseason, but I don't see the point in offering Hayward more since I think he'll draw less interest.

Hayward is underrated and performs pretty damn close to Paul George per 36. Last year:

per 36
Hayward 17.4/3.8/3.6, 1 steal, .7 blocks, 2.1 TOs, .435 FG%, .415 3pt%, .827 FT%, PER 17.3, Opp. PER 12.0
George 16.7/7.3/4.0, 1.7 steals, .6 blocks, 2.8 TOs, .419 FG%, .362 3pt%, .807 FT%, PER 17.6, Opp. PER 11.2

I'm also laughing at all of the suckers who keep letting him drop to me in the 80th-90th pick in fantasy basketball. Expect Hayward to play 36 minutes a game, or damn close to it, so even if he doesn't improve he'll still be putting up nice numbers.

Regarding contract, I'm fine with him getting a 4/44 deal, but anything more than that is too much. (Note, Favors just got overpaid, 4/44 should have been his deal as well).

I'm guessing DeRozan's 4/$38M would be the comparison.
