I'm loving the performances from the Australians through pre-season. Delly's had a couple of really solid games as the main backup with Jack out, and his D has generally been pretty good. The Cavs actually ran with an Aussie backcourt of Delly and Kyrie (
) for a few minutes and it worked pretty well and had some great ball movement. Patty and Baynes have put in good minutes for the Spurs, too- Baynes has had a tip in to tie one game and send it to OT where Patty hit the game winning 3, and yesterday he hit a game winner off a nice pick and roll.

Really?
Would this instantly become the worst contract in the league?

I suppose he has potential to get better, but 12.5 mil+ for a guy who seems about average at everything just blows my mind.

Real good shooter, can create off the dribble, smart, plays multiple positions, good defender, great work ethic/fan favorite; he's worth 10 million/year right now with the potential to be worth more after a good year. Especially with all the reports of him tearing it up for team USA this summer. He's a similar caliber player to Paul George so the contract is pretty much what you expect for wings in today's nba.

I was thinking 8 or 9 a year prior to this coming out, I still wouldn't go over that if I was the Jazz but there's more than just talent involved in this one.
ETA-Sorry he's not close to the same caliber as Paul George though.

Why isn't Kenny G the Utah Jazz mascot?

Not sure if this makes sense to anyone else but:
Favors is worth more than Hayward in the big picture but I can see overpaying Hayward now as opposed to overpaying Favors now.

4/28? Taj Gibson money? Tough call for the Grizz, if Z-Bo opts in you have $50m tied up with him, Gasol, Conley and Prince. I'd probably try to move Z-Bo or pray like crazy he opts out.

If Hayward and Favors are taking up $100M of the Jazz money, they are going nowhere in the Western Conference for awhile. Both are nice players, don't get me wrong, but they are building that team in an awfully weird way. Hayward's upside is Mike Dunleavy long term and I don't see Favors taking the next jump to justify that deal.

I think Utah is stupid to pay Hayward that type of money. Horrific. He's a great glue guy but your payroll is killed if you pay $12mm a year for a guy like that. His ceiling is not Bird or even Paul George IMO. His best case IMO is the NBA version of Toni Kukoc but I don't see him being that good.
If he blows up, then you pay him or match next summer.

Okay, I was coming here to say WTF about Hayward's deal, but you guys have it covered as usual.
I don't get it.

I guess they know he can put up giant numbers this season but still I just can't see another team offering a Hibbert contract. He should be getting the Favors deal.

Yes he is. Sure George is a better athlete, defender and rebounder but Hayward is a significantly better shooter, and is a more versatile offensive player who can run the offense, play off ball or as a PnR handler. He scores at a better rate than George and turns the ball over less. They are most certainly similar caliber players and its silly that members of a board with as many smart posters as this one can't see that.

Re: ATL: Preseason edition (BJ out 3 weeks with -page 9)
I'm having a hard time with the Paul George comparisons. Granted George plays more minutes, but last year George has roughly 17/8/4 and was trending towards being a 20/9/5 type guy. All in a 6-10" body that has huge athletic advantages at the wing spot. He was able to be "the guy" against the LeBron Heat last year.
I just never saw Hayward have that type of superstar impact. I'd offer him 4/$28 with incentives and if he doesn't like it, then have him play out this year to prove he's an impact player.
