Granger out for preseason

Post#1 » by mikepacernation » Mon Oct 21, 2013 7:41 pm

The Pacers shut Granger down for the rest of the preseason due to his calf strain. Is this a sign of bad things to come?

Good sign it's the calf and not his knee. But it could be a sign of a year full of different ailments.

Vogel needs to go with Stephenson as a full-time starter, bring Granger off the bench. It's pretty simple to me. Just can't rely on him. They can always re-evaluate the rotation around Christmas time. If Lance hasn't emerged to the next level and Granger has shown he can remain healthy, i'm pretty sure both parties will understand. Essp. Lance, who i believe he is better suited as the 6th man at this point of his career.

It's not a good sign really is it. Quite frequently after a bad injury the player tries to compensate the weak spot with other muscle-groups/joints resulting in overusing those.

I hate to say it but I don't think we will see Granger in more than 40 games this season.

Fair assumption. If it's the right 40 games, I could live with it. If he can get healthy enough by a couple weeks before the playoffs, I'll be fine with the season. I don't care so much about winning 65 as I do about winning a championship.

yeah but if it is before the play-offs he will basically have been out two regular seasons on the bounce. Doesn't do a lot for a man's skill and feel for the game, whether Granger or Ben Hansborough is irrelevant at that point.

I think the pacers need to start exploring trades for Granger.

With our fiscal restraints next year, there's not much we can do. If we take back any 2014 salary, that means we have already let Lance walk for nothing.

So, find a deal where we match Danny's $14m in salary in a deal, but also get back all expiring salary. Now, find a deal where we get players back that would make sense for us when all we're trading away is a guy who has risky health issues.

I'm guessing, there's not many options out there.

From an outside perspective as a former Pacer fan, I wouldn't stress if you lose Stephenson because he is not that great.

That's an odd thing to say.

Future Superstar? Absolutely not. Near lockdown perimeter defender that has bought into a team concept wholeheartedly and has some hope to be decent to good offensively in short order? Yup. Already there. For MLE money, he'd be damned good.

Don't get me wrong lance may turn into something but I feel like he can be replaced he's the only one in the starting five I think we can do with out. But doesn't mean I don't want them to just drop him.

Lance is a young player with enormous explosiveness, he is actually harder to replace since last season as he got a lot of experience in the system and adds tenacity and explosiveness to the mix. Without Lance I reckon PG would not have had the break-out season they had as he would have had to focus on perimeter defence a lot more.

Yup. Sadly, I anticipate this all year. Hard not to at this point.

they are going to play Copeland at 3 in the last preseason game. I suspect how he does will determine whether we keep Butler as insurance or not.

it sounds like the kind of injury one might get by babying another injury. years ago I threw out my back very painfully after walking a little abnormally to favor a gimpy knee. I think he'll be okay eventually and having a reason to bring him along slowly without bruising his ego over not starting may be a blessing.

We've already told Butler and Armstrong that they are not making the roster out of camp, but how they finish camp could affect if we bring them in later in the year or not.

This was after Danny started sitting out this preseason.
