Re: Gordon Hayward's Worth?
People are obsessing too much on Hayward's per game numbers and "production".
I wouldn't be surprised if he averages 20/4/4 with good scoring efficiency and good defense. Very good player. He's a fantastic cutter and I had doubts about that when he was in Buttler, I thought he'd struggle to read and move without the benefit of a structure offense, but I was wrong.
Maybe they can wait before offering him more than $10M per season, that depends on how much cap space other teams will have available next Summer. But I think Hayward will be a very coveted asset after this season. Just has been lacking the minutes/opportunities to bring up his production.

his usage was 21% last season, how much higher do you really see it getting?
Ypu see him getting 28 or more usage like durant, westbrook Harden? That's the only way he'll justify this contract.

What kind of contract is he getting? What is the "this contract" you're talking about?
Because if he gets 4years/50ish million, that's still quite a bit less than the $90 million (or $80 million) Paul George got - a max contract.
You're talking like they're giving him a max.

if theyre giving him 12/50 then he needs a higher usage and thus more ppg to justify it. I dont see him as that type of player, he's not a top dog, but he might get paid like one.

The guy measured out at 6' 6.75". That shouldn't determine his worth as a player or his contract, but height exaggeration of players is just a pet peeve of mine (sorry).

I think 6'8" is what I have heard.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Players around the league are listed at their height in shoes. Hayward's height in shoes when he was drafted in 2010 was 6'8. Given his age at that time, it's not unrealistic for him to be closer to 6'8.5 or 6'9. It's not much of an exaggeration at all really.
Regardless, a player at his skill level is probably worth around 6.5 and 7.5 million a year. Tack on a million more for "potential" and you're looking at 7.5 to 8.5. Anything over that is absolutely ridiculous. Regardless, if I'm Utah, I would have dealt him already. He's going to get paid, and he's going to get paid at a level which is going to hurt Utah's flexibility down the line. Locking him up at amounts that are greater than Favors new deal is begging for the treadmill.

He'll get more ppg simply by playing more minutes.
And at first you were saying that "the only way he'll justify his contract" is by having a Durant/Harden level of usage. That's nuts. He isn't getting a max contract .

well he got 29.2 mpg last year, He probably wont go over33-35 mpg this year. He needs a higher usage along with the more mpg to push his scoring average to like 20 or more to justify a 50M contract. I hate what Utah is doing.

Re: Gordon Hayward's Worth?
Guys like deng and iguodala got 15 mill per yr contracts just by averaging like 17-18 points, with 5-6 rebounds.
AI got 5 assists or more a night as well.
I see hayward averaging 17-18 points, with 4-5 boards and 4-5 assits a game. Not far fetched to see him get a 10-12 mill contract. He is a low turnover guy, and he will be a better shooter than either deng or AI will ever be. Defensively he is not as good as those guys, but its not like he is a bad defender or anything.
If it is higher than that, jazz may be bidding against themselves.

Re: Gordon Hayward's Worth?
Well, Hayward now lists 6'8". Ideally, yeah Hayward would be paid in the $8 million range, but some team will overpay him in free agency, so the Jazz have to be a bit preemptive. Again, guys Tyreke Evans and DeMar DeRozan are paid in the $11.4 range. Hayward will rate with those guys this year.

1m on top of MLE is the max i'll pay.
You know he's actually above average in scoring efficiency? FG% is a bad stat.
And he's expected to improve too since he's just 23. 13 mil per year would be overpay though, unless he really makes a big jump.

Re: Gordon Hayward's Worth?
Well looks like most people think he's worth 7-9 mil a year, but he thinks he's worth more
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--jazz- ... 27935.html
For Hayward to turn down a four-year deal worth $40 million-plus, he'd risk the possibility of an injury this season that could impact his earning power as a restricted free agent in July 2014.

If I'm the Jazz, I hold my offer at 4/$45. No reason to offer more than that now.

Re: Gordon Hayward's Worth?
7-8 million over 4 years at most.
Guy doesn't do anything great. He's a poor man's Jeff Green without the length, size or athleticism- I question whether he can defend the better players at his position in the league like Green can either.
Poor mans Jeff Green so he shouldn't make as much. If people say Green is a bargain at 9 million a year then Hayward is fair at 8 million a year.

Re: Gordon Hayward's Worth?
He has weak upper body strength, he doesn't rebound like a 3 should. He can't create like a 2 does. He's a tweener who deserves no more than 7 mil a year. And that's being generous. Of course by today's NBA standards he'll get 11-13 mil because 14 ppg is something and he's tall. Can't teach height.
