Singleton/Vesely Option Pick-up Countdown

Post#1 » by closg00 » Wed Oct 23, 2013 12:08 pm

8 days to-go, will we be kept in-suspense all the way up to the October 31st deadline?

It's a given that EG wants to keep them. He can't admit a mistake. He doesn't grasp the concept of a sunk cost. We have to hope that Ted puts his foot down.

I am hoping if they were going to exercise the option on Vesley, it would have happened. I guess there still is a danger it will be done after the last preseason game.

Singleton, it may be they are on the fence and will wait up to the deadline to make a decision.

They've definitely made their decision on Singleton already, especially since he's hurt and nothing will change between now and then. He's gone.

Also, I don't think the fact that we haven't announced that we're exercising Vesely's option means we're not going to. Keep in mind we also have to choose whether or not to exercise Beal's 3rd year team option before October 31st. That's obviously a no-brainer, but it still hasn't been announced publicly yet. When we announce these moves, it's going to all happen at one time. I expect we'll officially find out that Beal's option was exercised, while Vesely and Singleton's options were not, all in the same press release.

Beals extension is exactly why they haven't announced the others yet. Cuz once they do his, that opens the mic for the others.

I don't recall any of the team reporter asking Randy about this. Probably an off mic arrangement of etiquette. They know Randy will brush them off. Maybe Ted and EG sent down word to them to lay off it because they will handle it all at once on the 31st.

They do have one live game on the 30th against DET before they need to decide.

Can't imagine the Wizards would pick up the option on Vesely. Singleton perhaps, just to give him one last shot as a defensive, "stretch-four". Doesn't look particularly good for either.

He's in the last year of his deal and like I said in another thread, he'll do whatever it has to take to keep his job even if it's admitting a mistake.

How many folks will want to do this if EG extends Vesley and Singleton?

 The unsigned preseason guys are expected to be released today, including Childress (CSN), perhaps we will learn the fate of Ves and Singleton as-well today.

Why would Beal's extension (or the announcement of it) have anything to do with the other extensions? Picking up Beal's is an automatic no-brainer. Pick it up and move on. The options on Vesely and Singleton seem like easy decisions too -- no for each. Don't pick 'em up, and move on.

How many will want to do that if he turns over a new leaf, admits his mistakes, releases both of them, and is extended for two more years?

After the stupid Okafor trade, I'm now scared. In my mind, declining Vesely and Singleton is a complete no-brainer, but I continue to be amazed at EG's stupidity. My guess now is that EG will extend Gortat and thereby eliminate any potential cap room next summer. With cap room no longer a possibility, he'll go ahead and extend both Vesely and Singleton. He can't afford to admit a mistake right now because it'll only provide ammo for Ted to fire him.

Truly frightening, but this is the way EFG operates. This ^ is entirely plausible.
