New Arena for the Wolves and Wild?

Post#1 » by Minnesota Power » Sat Oct 26, 2013 3:43 am

This is literally just something I thought of earlier today and is just something to discuss for fun. It has always intrigued me how the Twin Cities have one arena in Minneapolis for one team and the other in St. Paul for the other team and is definitely a characteristic that makes this metro area unique.

What would you think of the idea around 2030-2035 we could get a new replacement arena to replace both Target Center and the Xcel for both the Wolves and the Wild? The Target Center renovation website says "revitalizing Target Center to entertain until 2032" And by that time the Target Center will be over 40 years old and the Xcel will be slightly more than 30 years old which is the average-ish lifespan of a lot of arenas.

Anyways this is just something to discuss for fun, but let's say if it were to happen, where would you put the new arena? What do you think the chance of something like this happening in 20ish years would be? Would the Twin Cities be better off with just one arena instead of two? Would it be easier to get public funding if a new arena would be for two teams instead of one?

Would you want this to happen or would you prefer to have each team in their own arena with one in Minneapolis and the other in St. Paul?

Give me your opinions and discuss :D
I want to move back to Minnesota, I miss it sooooo much!

20 years from now? I'll be a sad old man. Don't even want to think about that crap.

You devote way too much time to thinking about the future

Aww come on, its only been 8 of his 13 posts that have been on TC renovation/new arena/Taylor selling the team/relocation.

Its really not that much, is it?!

I don't think the upgrades to Target Center will keep people happy for long, and if the NBA rises in popularity as I expect, I imagine we'll be talking about a new stadium on the same site within 8-10 years.

I think that's expected. This is just to give people that brand new feel for a few years until the Wolves start gaining revenue from the success of the team that we all hope to see. Taylor has been losing money so when we establish more of a winning culture, I think we'll see something brand new in +10/15 years.

TC is definitely too outdated. Has that 90s/early 00s feel to it when we've had too many advances in design/technology from that time period to present day.

At least they finally switched up the menu. More gourmet chef prepared dishes and better quality hot dogs, burgers, etc.
