Jones has a sprained shoulder.

I checked because I thought they were going to set up a trade with Jones for Ryan Anderson.

This was pretty fun to watch.

Canaan has speed and range. Jitters aside, I think he'll do alright in this league.

Motie has gotten much better. He definitely matched up well against Koufos. He'll be part of the rotation just about anywhere in the league now.

Brewer played well, even if his ceiling is dramatically lower than all the other young bucks interviewing for a job.

So our rotation is almost set then?

Dwight/Asik/Camby/{Smith?}
Parsons/Casspi/{Covington/Brewer?}
Lin/Beverly/Brooks/{Canaan?}
Jones/Motie
Harden/Garcia/{Troy Daniels, Reggie WIlliams}

I haven't seen Reggie Williams play yet, I think he's gone.
Troy Daniels has been with the team for a week. Maybe he's just practice fodder.
Covington is intriguing, but I think he's the odd guy out.

Canaan Stays.
Brewer Stays.
Smith Stays.

David Weiner @BimaThug
Rockets' signing of Troy Daniels most likely nothing more than a tactical move for @rgvvipers to obtain D-League rights to him.
10:42 AM - 18 Oct 2013

Covington and Williams most likely gone

normal rotation
C - Asik, Howard
PF - Howard, Casspi, Parsons
SF - Parsons, Garcia, Harden
SG - Harden, Beverley, Garcia
PG - Beverley, Lin

hard to know who will be the 9th and 10th man to get regular min
just by judging talent it should be Brooks
but we are stack in the backcourt
it may just going by game time need
if need big body for defense -- Smith/Motiejunas
need scoring Brooks
need defense - Brewer
play small ball - Jones

Hey I like Camby but does he really add any value to this team? I mean, I'm sure Greg Smith or even D-Mo can be a reasonable 3rd string center in case of injuries...not sure if Marcus will even be healthy for a single game.

Speaking of D-Mo, did he gain a lot of muscle in the off-season or is just me? He looks like a beast down low now, he's able to seal off his defender in the post and gain good position. Then he does his patented shake and bake + hook to EITHER the left or right. You can't play him to one side he does both equally effective. He needs to get at least 10-15 minutes per game this season.

Houston Rotation

PG - Beverley (24) Lin (24)
SG - Harden (38) Garcia (4) Lin (6)
SF - Parsons (32) Garcia (16)
PF - Howard (12) Casspi (18) D-Mo (14) Parsons (4)
C - Asik (24) Howard (24)

If one of the PG's are hurt, Aaron Brooks steps in and takes whatever floor time necessary. He might get the occasional run a couple minutes a game in certain lineups to keep him fresh. If one of our SF's or SG's get injured, Brewer can fill in. If one of our bigs are out, Greg Smith or Terrence Jones can takeover no problem. I really like our rotation up to ~15 players.

No, it's not just you...you are absolutely correct. It is well documented that D-Mo hit the weights this summer to get bigger and stronger. I can definitely see a difference in his strength level against NBA players. He is still inconsistent from the 3 point line and a minus defensively though. His low post game is probably the best on the team in my opinion. I think if he can either at least become a marginal defender instead of a net negative or a 36% 3 point shooter, he would find himself on the floor a bunch more. One of those things need to be his next step in development. He is looking more and more like a player each game though and a good trade asset at the very least. I like Jones too though. I wish he hadn't hurt his shoulder. His strengths have been more on the defensive end this preseason.

This is the third in three years that Harden has had this problem. He needs to start wearing knee pads.

I much rather Motie work in the post rather than the three point line. Just hope he gets better on defense. He has the length and strength

Yeah his post game is pretty gangster, and sure he can shoot the ball better than most 7 footers but does that warrant him camping outside the 3 point line shooting 3's? Not really imo. Maybe the occasional corner long ball when available but that's it, his inside game is too solid right now to focus on jacking 3's.

His defensive liabilities are definitely not due to a lack of effort, or shortcomings of physical characteristics. I think with some more experience and hard work he can became a respectable defender.

Memphis looked pretty bad in their last two preseason games. I'm pleased with how the Rockets look though.. they seem ready to go.

Yes, Rockets look as good as any team I've seen from preseason.

The only problem is Asik + Howard defending pick and roll. Our guards have to fight through screens and our bigs don't go out to challenge.

i believe the coaching staff is telling them not to challenge and try to get our guards to learn how to fight through screens....good practice for them....i suspect playing against a team like warriors that they would need the bigs to go out and challenge since curry and klay just need a little daylight to shoot their jumpers.
