Rockets' signing of Troy Daniels most likely nothing more than a tactical move for @rgvvipers to obtain D-League rights to him.

guess my initial thought is correct

Interesting little move. Thanks for reporting.

Jonathan Feigen ‏@Jonathan_Feigen 21h
Lots of NBA roster moves today. Other than Troy Daniels, Rockets will wait until Monday. Contracts guaranteed anyway.

Morey may be working on a trade

Jonathan Feigen @Jonathan_Feigen
Rockets will waive center Marcus Camby on Monday, source said. Camby has been unable to come back so far from torn plantar fascia tissue.

i'm glad Morey is actually doing it

That sucks for Camby. I guess that means Covington stays?

Garcia – $2,582,786 (including $1,316,809 after this season)
Canaan – $2,144,818 (including $1,574,303 after this season)
Jones – $1,551,840
Motiejunas – $1,422,720
Casspi – $947,907
Parsons – $926,500
Brooks – $884,293
Camby – $884,293
Covington – $640,180 (including $150,000 after this season)
Williams – $473,954
Brewer – $100,000
Young – $40,000
Smith – $0
Beverley – $0
Henriquez – $0

usually team cut those with the least guaranteed money but this year is a little different
rule is we can only send 3 that we cut to D-League for Vipers to optain their right
if not if they want to play in D-League it will be some type of draft
we already did it for Henriquez, Young, and Daniels
my guess is Morey is either high on Covington and he doesn't want to lose him (he signed 2 years contact)
and he can't find any taker for Smith (if we are giving playing time to Jones and Motiejunas at PF and Asik can play with Howard, there is not much need for Smith)
so he spend more money to cut Camby, who can't play anyway

now we need to cut one more
who is it?
Williams? Covington? Brooks? Smith?

Come on Max you know he's not cutting Brooks or Smith.
Harden is still a work-in-progress. He can score, but he can't help his teammate that much - Yao Ming

Neither Brooks or Smith have done anything to deserve being cut over Reggie Williams or Covington.
Cutting Camby pretty much ensures Smith is on the team.
Brooks had a decent preseason and is not complaining about his role. Plus Canaan is not NBA ready.

Smith is big enough to play center against some teams. Anyway, it's likely one of Dwight or Asik will always be on the floor with him unless it's a blowout. Motiejunas will probably get some burn at backup center also.

smith fouls like there's nothing left to do on this planet when he defends players bigger than him, which most centers are. he's good for a backup pf, esp if dmo, tj or and our fake stretch 4s can't start.

Am I reading this right?

BJ Young chose to sign with the Vipers while he had interest from the Lakers & Sixers?

If this is the case then perhaps the way the Rockets run the RGVV is being noticed by players.

Roster looks good to me. Bummed about Camby but it made the most sense.
