GT: Grizzlies vs. Spurs

Post#1 » by Nolan » Tue Oct 29, 2013 12:57 am

When: 8:30 PM ET, October 30, 2013
Where: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX

Well after a long offseason its finally time for our first game the regular season and its gonna be a tough one against the Grizzlies.

If we're going to win this one we're going to have to win the battle in the paint against the Grizzlies talented and tall front court.

Go Spurs!!

Really excited to see what Kawhi Leonard looks in a real game. His preseason play gave me a mixed reaction.

I love him most when he attack the rim in P&R situation and when he's posting up. What I don't like is that he's in love with long jumpers inside the arc. Also, Kawhi's court vision and passing skills are really average. I'd really like to see Kawhi improve his post up game instead of his P&R game. Mold him into the Jordan/Lebron/Kobe type post player

He was especially aggresive in the game Parker was out. I liked him in that game just simply attacking the rim and he's got a really good body control. Not overly athletic, but he's always under control and able to get shots up around the rim.

Anyway for this game, we should win this one.

Our advantage:
1. We're at home.

2. Grizzlies have a new coach, which means they should still be adjusting to a new offense and a new identity. Meanwhile, we have the same returning core group. Team Chemistry should be on our side.

Hopefully Duncan's injury isn't too serious. Losing him for an extended period of time would not be good.

Big three by Kawhi. He's really stepped up on both ends tonight.

Good win

Too bad Duncan got hurt
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

I thought it was a great game by Kawhi. Statline didn't really look much. 14 points, 7 boards, 2 blocks, 4 turnovers. But he was aggresive and attack the rim consistently. Got 2 calls againts him that went in. One was called for a travel.. The other was when Gasol took a charge even though the replay showed him still moving. Also, he's shooting better. Last year, he had a lot of shots that were flat. Preseason and today, there's great arc to his shot and it just looks like he's shooting it more relax this year. Better release or something. Whatever it is, it's looking better than last year.

Ayres looks like he's going to be primarily a backup Center this year. Atleast for game 1, he didn't share the floor with Duncan or Splitter. He's essentially the backup to Duncan/Splitter. He hustles and full of energy, plus he looks bulkier than any of our bigs.

Marco looked like he fit in too. This Marco-Manu unit looks better with Patty Mills at PG than Joseph because Patty is a scorer. Don't need everyone to be a playmaker. And Patty was a sparkplug tonight. Scored like 12 points in his first 8 minutes in the game. Though he didn't continue that in the 2nd half, but he did what he needed to do.

And last, we hold Zach to 2 points and 7 boards. LOL. Curious why Hollins, and now Joerger doesn't have the offense go through Zach like a couple years back. Even in this game, they didn't try to establish Zach in the low post. Zach isn't injured and isn't old enough to suddenly lose everything.

Interesting game. I thought we had it in the bag after the Grizzlies horrible 2nd quarter. They managed to bring it back. Allen made more 3's in this game than he did all last season!

I like Manu and Belinelli together, I think they're going to have some great games together. Hope TD's injury isn't too serious.

Mills was lights out in that first half, seems like Pop is going with him over Joseph and de Colo.

Nice shooting from long range, 11-20.

I love Diaw's game. He's got a nice soft touch around the basket and his passing is superb.

Lakers next.
