Who will be the first Piston traded this season?

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Mon Oct 28, 2013 8:57 pm

So the season is about ready to start and we're all optimistic. But considering that Dumars is in a make or break season, I think he is more than willing to make a trade to make sure we get to the playoffs, and hopefully more. So who will be the first person traded by the Pistons this year?

Wow, tough call. I definitely think something will go down at some point.

I'm gonna go with... CV. Bad as he may be, there are a number of teams desperate for a stretch 4 and he doubles as a large expiring contract.

I'd be in more of a rush to move Stuckey, but he'll be less in demand despite being the better player. And his injury may set him back a little.

The player I'd most like to see moved is Monroe, but not until closer to the deadline. I doubt this actually happens though and I'm afraid we'll either overpay or lose him next Summer.

Stuckey. Expiring, playing for a good contract (unlike CV, who has NO chance at a decent pay day), useful skillset on some teams, just not ours. He'll probably be packaged with other assets, though, so it'll end up being a tie.

I could see Stuckey + Mitchell + JJ for an above-average 2 or 3 with two or three years left on a non-awful deal. Not sure who that is, though.

Knowing Joe, probably no one.

Maybe I'm drinking too much of the kool-aid, but I really think as constructed this team gets the 5 seed.

At the end of the day is a talent driven league, so keep the band together and let's go places. I'm really worried we move Monroe though, he is better than he gets credit for.

I voted none. Stuckey won't be moved because Billups' health is always going to be a concern - and Bynum is not a good full time back-up, but more an instant offense type. So Stuck will be kept around as insurance for Billups' health while also getting minutes at the 2-guard otherwise.

We won't trade CV because we need a stretch four ourselves. He'll be the first big off the bench for us unfortunately.

If it's anyone it will be Stuckey or CV.

None of our "core 4" players will be dealt this year, and frankly none of our other pieces have any significant value. Stuckey and CV's expirings are our only really interesting trade chips, and I could easily see both of them finishing the season on our roster, too.

There should be a "no significant trades" option on there. I'd vote for that.

I'd like to see us explore trade options with Monroe, but I'd be surprised to see that happen.

I voted Stuckey, but I doubt that will even happen for the reasons that Kilo explained.

I voted CV, but he's rep around the league is pretty bad.

I'm hoping Stuckey isn't traded but his expiring deal might be attractive.

I'd trade Monroe for any of the following players.

Thompson, Barnes, Leonard, beal

2013-2014 Dream Scenario

Duncan breaks down, Leonard is not able to carry the team by himself.
- Leonard for Moose

Then we turn around and offer the Magic a chance to start fresh and save 19M next year:
- Afflalo, Jameer, Big Baby for Stuckey, CV, Bynum, Siva

Starting Five
Jennings -- Afflalo -- Leonard -- Smith -- Drummond

First 5 Off the Bench
Nelson -- Billups -- (KCP / Datome) -- (Jerebko/Mitchell) -- (Davis / Harrelson)

Thats top 4 in the East with a possibility to upset someone in the playoffs especially with such a deep lineup

Aah, back at it again huh? Don't have an argument against logic so you just call me a moron.

Try using that tiny little brain of yours and actually imagine how the offense might flow better without him. Think about how obvious it is that Monroe is not getting a big contract here, that Joe's job is on the line so he's going to make moves until he sees a team that will definitely make the playoffs, how Moose doesn't fit with this team and is also the only trade piece we have. Stuckey and CV have expiring deals but they will not be bringing anybody of significance back in a deal. Open your eyes, others around here are starting to if you haven't noticed.

i doubt anyone gets traded, but i dont like that you gave us that option. we should be picking one. for me, if anyone is to be traded, i can see it being bynum first, after he has a few nice games early, even though hes not needed on the roster if the team is fully healthy.. teams may be looking for a backup pg and bynum would be available.. i dont think it happens, but i wouldnt be surprised if it did.
stuckey and villanueva are also likely, and maybe more so than bynum, due to the expiring contracts, but i get the feeling we hold onto them all year. cv has almost no trade value, so id say stuckey is more likely out of the 2 of them.

Stuck is clearly the odd man out. We need our wings to be able to shoot in order to get with our frontcourt, and he clearly is not that guy. He's also an expiring contract with little chance of his contract being renewed.

Ideally we can flip Stuck for a backup 2/3 that can shoot.

I think Monroe is clearly the odd man out so one of us has to be wrong, clearly it is you.

Are you sure, we're talking about Dumars here and a Jennings/KCP/Stuckey 3 guard rotation doesn't look that bad.

Well, maybe, except for one thing.

Spoiler:
Everybody in the NBA knows he can't play.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
