Not taking anything away from Dipo but he also played 3 years of college ball at his true position while Hark had to play PF, SF and C at St. Johns which I think is insane.

Playing out of position for 32 games in college (even assuming he was ALWAYS out of position at all times) out of your basketball lifetime at the end of the day does not mean anything in terms of actual basketball ability/basic skills are.

Your basketball skillset is built/developed in the gym, not during games, it is built by practicing and actually putting the time in. At the end of the day, it was 32 games out of his life. His coach using him at C/PF etc during a 1155 minutes stretch, is NOT the reason he is a poor shooter, dribbler and/or passer. These skills have been developing from the 1st time he decided to pick up a basketball, just like everybody else.

I swear too many people act like skills are points handed out by position like this is a video game. These guys have been playing basketball in most cases since they were children.

People have to realize that we arent going to have 5-6 guys averaging 15 ppg+ and making allstar teams.

Deng plays Great defense. They have two different types of games. Harris plays more like Carmelo as he is mroe offense than defense. I think Harris could average more points and boards than Deng mainly because he is on the Magic.

He was talking about Hark, you troll master you. :D

Which is exactly what I've been saying for years. We hear the PR statements every training camp, preseason, and during the season. I've worked on this, I've fixed that, I've changed this, blah blah. In the end, these guys have been balling for over a decade or more by the time they hit the NBA and very little ever changes about their core skillsets.

There are certainly cases where guys haven't played organized basketball for very long, like Nicholson and KOQ, but the rest have been playing on basketball teams with coaches and trainers, for a long time. There is no miraculous NBA talent acquisition, you simply improve a little on what you already have. Most talent acquisition is offset by elevated defense too, so it's really just your same core tendencies and skills expanded to larger minutes against better defenders, which basically equals out to whatever you came into the NBA doing just at more minutes.

Stats show that 9 times out of 10, a player will have leveled off to within about 10% +/- his career averages by the middle to end of his 2nd NBA season, regardless of how young he came in the league. Get Harkless' PER36 in February and that will likely show you his career numbers.

As i've eluded to before. I would just love for Harkless to turn into a Shawn Marion type of player. Someone that gets his offense off of effort plays....cuts....open looks....while rebounding at an above average rate and playing focused "D" on his opponent. if he just did that...i could totally see him as a 15 pt, 8 reb, 1.5 st and 1.5 blk type of guy...shooting a high percentage from the field (minimal 3's). lol

And if he did that....I would be elated with him

People don't remember, but Marion came in top 5 one year in the MVP voting for NBA. He was bordering superstar level at one point. He was really good on defense, but had a decent post up game to go with being able to shoot 3's.

Ridicluous. A huge portion of their development happens on the court. You cant sub. on court experience with practice. If thats the case then why is everyone so eager to move our vets? They keep saying its so he can develop but using your flawed logic thats not the case. Also players dont develop at the same rate and the end result isnt always the same. Some guys ceiling is hire than another, some players hit a wall, then continue getting better.

Yeah he was an amazing jack of all trades type player. At his peak, he was good for 20+ points, 10+ boards, 2 dimes, 2 steals, 2 blocks and could hit 3s and free throws (horrible form though). Definitely a stat filler and he didn't turn it over much either.

Fine-tuning occurs in games. The skills are either there already or not (during games). Period.

On court Development YES. As in learning how to play with teamates how to adjust, decision making, executing under game time pressure etc, Basketball IQ, Etc...

Developing your actual basketball SKILLS? Hell. No. These are two totally different things. What people are talking about is his SKILL LEVEL.

Oh you didn't? Yup. You either have it or you don't apparently no player EVER has developed other aspects of their games.

JJ Redick must have too.

Udonis must have hit his prime at 20 before he bounced around the D-League and Europe. What about Ben Wallace who was undrafted and played D-League?

Seriously, do people actually think that only 20 year olds can be developed in the NBA?

Nope. Oladipo and Harkless are going to improve as ball handlers, defenders, shooters, playing against better talent in real game situations. Sorry.

Its not just the age. The point is that players develop physical skill sets as their careers progress. Sefelosha and Ariza for example developed an outside shot which they didnt have coming into the league.

Rip Hamilton was horrible from the 3 early in his career. Eventually, he became a goto 3 in games.

I have a question for people who think this league is rigged. If you really think the Lakers and Celtics will be bad this year, what's the point of tanking? Wouldn't Silver want to make his first major act to make sure that those two franchises are good for the first decade of his tenure?
